Watching Cavett’s listless interview with Newhart makes me realize more than ever just how great Carson was.

Cavett makes you really appreciate Johnny Carson. And the camera angles suck.

I have nothing against newhart, but he was never that remarkable to me. Cavett was rude with the ashtray, he made a point of clanking it after Newhart dropped the ashes o the carpet.

I want to like Bob…but he’s too dry for myself. Takes me 5 seconds to get the laugh. Thinking about it

Bob Newhart was a great comedic figure, with his wonderfully dry humor. And Dick Cavett was one of the most annoying and biggest blowhard assholes of that era. No wonder he only lasted 2 years on ABC.
