For real dude is the shit. I'm 38 and I ve watched him every saturday morning about 11 am my whole life. I always wondered as a child why isn't there more demand for his work? Acknowledgement of his skills and abilities? Now his works are shy of priceless. 1000s and only 2 people actually own one. Amazing

Bob Ross passed away 23 years ago today. Thank you Bob for bringing Joy, Love, Warmth, Comfort to so many peoples hearts. He was a master at his craft, and it's always a pleasure to watch a master in session. Between the tapping, scratching, low tones, and whispers, it creates an effect known as ASMR which creates a low level euphoria. That's why he always received letters of people saying it helped them to sleep, put them to sleep, or helped them relax. So it was a compliment. Some people now play Bob Ross episodes before bed for the ASMR alone. People even started buying brushes just to "Beat the devil out of it" to relieve stress, even if they had no intention to paint. He inspired so many to take a leap of faith and jump into painting, even those who thought they couldn't paint to save their lives. And no matter how many times "He beats the devil out of it" I still giggle every time just seeing how much joy he has doing it. And it was great seeing all the animals on the show. He definitely loved to help animals in need and get them strong and healthy, then release them in the wild. And Peapod was adorable. We miss you Bob, and Steve. Hope you're doing okay Steve and still painting. Your probably living a simple life off the grid, I respect that. Happy 4th! Love you Bob!

Every Friday my girlfriend and I watch Bob on our local pbs station and discuss art. She is a great artist and very knowledgeable. Even though we paint differently, we are still in awe of Bob's talent.

I am learning to paint, (87)yrs. never too late! and love Ross and his videos, unfortunately I have a very extreme hearing problem, is there any way I could have Captions so that I can read what he saying, just thought I would ask. My ipad has been an immense help replacing the telephone , and is my only means of communication,, apart from all the other facilities it gives me, thankyou for your time.

If you're on PC, then you can click that happy little gear and turn on automatic captions. They don't get it right all the time but they work, heh. If you're using your ipad, I don't have one but I believe you can go to your browser, and click the box with CC in it and turn on automatic captions. Good luck!!

I recommend buying headphones or earbuds if you have not before, I'm not sure how hearing problems work, but trying those may work if you turn up the volume

3:30 Tap and pull up works too. I made a nice treeline pulling up blue water across a yellow sunset creating a distant treeline on a horizon. Happy Accident 😀

He’s so fast with not a worry in his body. I’m a perfectionist but then I later have to realize that me getting frustrated over worrying about the painting turning out perfect is the exact reason why it’s not getting done, and also is just making me avoid painting sometimes. You should enjoy your time, not stress over it. I’m trying to loosen up but it’s hard, I’m so slow because I try to control the brush myself which is impossible and sometimes just makes it look worse.

One day I tried to follow one of his tutorials. I love a good craft project. I did 3d origami and book folding and embroidery on paint canvas so why not try painting. I didn't have all the right type of brushes and paints but I was so excited when I saw how pretty it turned out. I said to my I can't even draw a stick person but Bob has me make a beautiful landscape. Then I remembered what he was also saying you don't have to dont have follow what I do you decide where things live in you world. You then realize that he has you painting from your heart. Painting should make you happy and we don't make mistakes just happy accidents.

I did end up trying to paint like him. The painting I made was a tent on a hill with a starry night sky as a backdrop. It looked like a Van Gogh-esque work when I was finished with it. I lost it when I was moving out of my house a couple of years ago and haven't found it though.

Interestingly I think the reason mountains turn blue further away is because of the red shift of the atmosphere. It cancels out the greenish hue and leaves the blue tint
