Jackson Browne, of course, did a stellar job performing this song, written by him in 1976 when he was getting close to turning 30. As he sang it, it had an urgency that a young man of that age might feel. Bob’s cover is that of an older man who has had time to ponder that urgency and put it in its rightful place. It’s melancholy and thoughtful as though it is begging for one final verse, one written with the telescope turned around and looking backwards at that life lived urgently seeking something, and discovering what it was, and what it wasn’t.

suprisingly mature, deep lyrics. couldn't care less about the song until hearing this.

I wish Bob would do more like this---his sultry raspiness hanging on a Melodie is calming....God knows I have run on empty...took, caught, and falling behind...

I've seen Bob live, in Los Angeles, three times. I get the feeling he is just more comfortable being a big fish in a smaller pond. Kind of like an athlete who likes playing for a small market team. Talent is without question.

We’ve seen Bob a couple times in Texas... the saddest part about living in Florida now is that the only way we’ll get to see Bob again is if he lives twice. (see his song Orlando)

As covers go, this tone- of-arrangement to actual-LYRICS performance may be my fave. Look, I'm about the biggest little Jackson Browne acolyte you'll ever find, but this IS a rueful, contemplative song and JB's clever bouncy 1978 counterpoint masked his actual POINT in writing it and Bob's JB tribute album version? Man, it brings it all back home. (Especially when one motors past another decade...🛻🌅 #Vrooom for improvement/Not the years, it's the mileage, kids..😢

yeah, it's mind boggling. i think it's because he doesn't fit a genre like the industry demands. he rolls effortlessly from hip-hop to country to swing to metal without so much as a bump. i doubt there has been a more prolific song-writer in the last 20 years. i see him damn near every Monday night, and every week, he's bringing new material. and that's ... ahem ... just the tip (yeah, I just said that...)

I’m not promoting Bob, rather the video I made. Rest assured that Bob is completely in charge of his own career and not interested in promoting any more than he already does.
