I saw this man as a kid and totally loved his passion. 40 years later I wanted to know his name and through Facebook I found out. What a man so full of passion and aliveness, a true inspiration 🥰

All the very best to you Mr Symes. I have enjoyed watching Model World on You Tube as much as I did all those years ago when I was a child. It was through Model World that I became interested in model railways. I once had the pleasure of meeting you when you made a film on the Isle of Man in 1995. Best Regards,

Here here!, Bob is a true Gent and somebody who I would allow into my house on TV or in real life - Unlike so many of todays morons who occupy our plasma screens. The thing is if BBC showed Bob's programmes today a whole new generation of boys and girls would be fascinated and take up all those great interests !

A wonderful Gentleman whose TV programmes were both inspirational and entertaining. In person he was always polite and charming, and his enthusiasm for trains, technology and engineering shone through. My condolences to his family and friends, my visits to Austria will be a little sadder knowing that I will not be able to bump into him somewhere along a railway line. Rest in peace, and thank-you.

Mr Symes, I hope you get to read this note, this small clip is just fabulous! I have loved every minute of your broadcasting and with Model Railways playing a huge part in my life, it feels as if you've been there every step of the way; whether it be from the "Model World" series which I rushed home from school to watch, or whether it was from more up-to-date media, such as this, I thank you for your presentations and inspiration over the years. God Bless you.

G'day Mr Symes ...from Australia...Just recently I found one of your early Model World editions on you Tube and was captivated..The era that these wonderful programmes would have been made would have been when I was still in primary school but I can associate with many things mentioned I now model HO contemporary American rail , using DCC but the earlier models are both incredible and interesting. It's a sheer joy ,sir, to view your archives..Thankyou and Cheers to you..

It is a shame Bob Symes is no longer with us. I think he did a lot of good PR for modelling in general and not just model railways and he presented his programmes in a very pleasant manner. I once met him at The Model Engineer Exhibition and was impressed by him as a teenage modeller.

Presenters today take the wrong approach in my view - they like to mock the guests and seem to think every line has to finish with a quip. TV used to be so much better - and it's not me being grumpy, as a young teen I would look forward to TV (weekly!) such as Tomorrow's World, Krypton Factor and of course Model World.
