Ivar the boneless was acrobatic and lithe. He was not hit or cut due to his speed and acrobatic performance in battle. He was not weak and was not what modern man would call special needs.

real stories : Despite Ivars disability, the legend tells that he was bigger, more beautiful and wiser than any other man. Therefore, he became known as one of the largest Viking kings Denmark has had, and was a skilled strategist and a formidable archer. Ivar ruled for a period from Lejre when he was king of Denmark.Unlike in Vikings, Ivar was in the legends the oldest of Ragnar's and Aslaug's sons. With Ivar in the lead, Bjørn and Hvitserk occupied a large number of cities in the Nordic region. The three brothers also went down through southern Europe, now that they were still on the road. Here they got to know about Romaborg (Rome), but they gave up taking it as it was too far away. Instead, they turned their nose home. On the way back, they ran into a large number of burnt-out towns, as the looting Vikings were so well-known that their victims would rather burn the cities by themselves than surrender. Ivar also led the Great Pagan Army to England, where he helped his brothers take revenge on his father's death. By making an agreement on land with the English King Aella, Ivar could build a castle, which later research has pointed out may be the city of York or London. In the sagas Ivar would not take bloody revenge on his father. Instead, he would ask King Aella for a payment for killing Ragnar, who Ivar himself thought was a bit out of it. The other brothers would not agree. They gathered an army and went to war against Aella, who knocked them back. Ivar asked his brothers to go back to their kingdoms, and he made an agreement with King Aella that he had to get a piece of land in England that was large enough to be embraced by a piece of ox skin. Ivar got an ox skin, which he soaked and thus stretched three times larger. He cut it into strips and gathered the strips into one long string. The string was so long that there was room for a large castle inside. The castle was called the Lund city. Clever boy!After receiving revenge, Ivar led the army through England, and according to the sagas he became king over England and Ireland

One of the theories is that his nickname was translated wrong and that he was known as Ivar The Hated. I really doubt he was a cripple like in the show. In Viking world cripple would never be respected and never seen as a leader.
@deltabravolima15144 жыл бұрын
Most likely he would've been killed soon after being born.

The Spartans were known for euthanasia, not the Vikings. The pagan vikings were so entrenched in the worship of Odin and many other “gods” (little “g”). The Spartans were way more hard core.
@MultipolarBear4854 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking along the same lines. "Boneless" could mean spineless, or without respect or even ruthless. Considering his future he could have very well been Ivar the ruthless.

See the fact your all underestimating a cripple being a leader is why it will be easy for cripples to make you pay for it

Yes, Ivar ( Ivarr Ragnarsson ) was not a ''crippled'' Viking Warlord... Many chronicles of the period, mentioned that he had the strength of 7 men when he was young...he was also quite tall and fast. --- He failed in England, went to Scotland and came back in Ireland. He died in Dublin, in 873...
