I was lucky enough to grow up riding bikes with my dad as a kid. Probably slept more miles on a bike than most have ridden their whole life. I love your videos. It's really awesome to show the creative process of design and fabrication and if it's not what you want you scrap it and start over. A lot of people talk shit about what your doing or how your doing it...it's your shit do it how you want to do it. ..kudos to you for building bikes with two wheels and not just a brand...you seem like a cool dude that i would like to hang out with and get my hands dirty.... when it comes to custom your building it for yourself and your vision...I think you have a good eye for awesome bikes...I would ride the shit outta them... keep up the good work...ignore the critical ass hats that try to tear you down...My Hats off to you sir for sharing your experience. My only piece of advice would be to take on bigger challenges...do a complete build...start with a frame and show these people what an artist you truly are...some people paint, some sing songs...you build machines...just awesome...best part is riding what you built.

Unfortunately I agree... the location of the shock is terrible... on the Indian Scout the shock is still mid way up the swing arm.. but the Scout is actually a terrible design too! Glad you went hardtail in the end. The shock setup you were planning would've behaved like a hardtail anyway

Hey man, I didn't think that would work. The shock angle was too drastic for the spring. You could keep the look and still have some bounce if you use a leaf spring from like a small boat trailer. Just saying I like the hard tail but I'm like over 50 now and built more for comfort. Thanks for all the videos.

It was a good concept though. I can see why you scrapped the softtail for the hardtail option. Nice job though, I was liking the original idea. I guess for it to be structurally sound you might have to build a full suspension from scratch. Hardtail is much more structurally sound and alot less work. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.

Very cool idea. It's hard to put in the time then have to abandon the idea. Safety first though. I watched the whole video and was getting very excited to see the result as I have a 82 magna torn down, deciding to keep the shocks or not. I am also trying to find a way to incorporate the springs whilst keeping the slope of the frame to go downward. My thought to fix the hard angle on the shock is to bring the bottom part the shock more forward on the swingarm making the shock more vertical.? Anyways this content is inspirational to me, thank you for sharing. Subscribed!

Mr. Matt The Magna is a tough bike to chop. But stick with it.
@MrMatt-df9th
@MrMatt-df9th 5 жыл бұрын
Yes Mark Blundell. I realized late into the chop that the factory Magna is a finely tuned machine. I can only repay the attributes of the stock Magna by fabbing a one of a kind bobber where the v65 4banger is the only recognizable piece on the canvas. MOTO PILOT has a similar project on his hands but lucky for me I discovered I can mount 2 shocks in the space between the motor and the front of the rear tire. There is enough vertical space but the work comes with fabbing new shock mounts. Mark Blundell, how can you relate to the Magna? MOTO PILOT, would be great to see a similar shock mount idea on the CB650.
@MrMatt-df9th
@MrMatt-df9th 5 жыл бұрын
Vertical space is referring the shock in up/down manner.
@markblundell9461
@markblundell9461 5 жыл бұрын
Matt Mounting the shocks in the position you noted will increase compression dramatically. I suggest you look into obtaining a shock from a Hnda vlx 600 and mount it to one side of the swing arm. It's a short monoshock and will tuck in neatly also alowing you to angle it in a more extream manner. I've been building bikes for 42 years.

Just curious why the shocks wouldnt work? I love the concept of having the shocks in line with the frame. I was thinking of doing something similiar to this idea on my Vulcan build. As I have a bad back. Was it just to much angle on the shocks to work correctly?

Yeah, the angle of the arm was set to swing for the original suspension. Changing the shocks angle but not the length of the arm meant the suspension wouldnt have been compressing on itself, but to the side. It wouldn't have worked unless he changed everything in the suspension to keep the angle right under load.

Tiny Table Wargames The frames were dead stock original, on Harleys as well as british bikes. Don't tell me what a bobber was cuz I was there then and I had one: a '52 Harley panhead with tank shifter, no front fender, solo seat, flat bars and open pipes; THAT was a bobber.
