I don't know if you have been told or not, but there are four or five shorts called x-rays that came out with episodes 1 to 5 and act as compliments to what could not fit in the season. In amazon they could be found while in the episodes I think.

I think only the first 5 have the mini X-ray episodes. They don’t show up in every platform (couldn’t watch on my console). I had to watch them in my phone . But definitely if you haven’t watched them do so and react to them. They are really good .

The show’s all character turns, all the time, with only a few exceptions. It’s also what makes someone like Marco a good villain: he’s not just a villain in a world of ever-moral Holdens, but a villain in a world where Clarissas exists too. He’s an exception. Same with Murtry who was maybe the first proper, face-to-face counterweight to Holden’s equally constant righteousness (Jules-Pierre and admiral Nguyen were also villains but weren’t direct foils in the same way). Clarissa obviously gets the Most Rehabilitated Murderer award, but even Avasarala got introduced torturing a Belter in season 1. Bobbi was a fairly one-dimensional jarhead; Amos was _pathologically_ one-dimensional; Monica’s gone from muckraker to muckraker you cheer for; Filip gives you whiplash the way he evolves; Prax got all bloodthirsty; the Secretary General after Gao turned from bumbling and sympathetic to ruthless and shortsighted (and Gao herself wasn’t _just_ a foil for Chrissy either); Jules-Pierre almost redeemed himself, but then noped out hard; Drummer stands as ramrod straight as she’s always done, but goddamn if she hasn’t become the coolest; Ashford almost killed the Solar System, but died an absolute boss, and so and so on.

Given N&C's discussion I'm inclined to believe that Peaches' story is more about her feeling that she has earned some of the forgiveness shown by a few of the people she has wronged. It may not be justice, or redemption, but it's something and it underscores the penance that the character carries with them as a consequence of their actions.

@@dwnkaomwn3953 So should Amos, and that's kind of the point. Maybe Amos didn't do bad stuff on the scale that Clarissa did, but he also did bad stuff, in fact younger Amos might have been plain evil until he was able to leave earth.

With Peaches, the redemption also comes through being reasonably transitioned out of a state where she was hurt, harmful, vengeful, misguided, nihilistic, and suffering. She was forced to face herself, and those she got put in with, and had ample time with guidance and therapy to create essentially a new identity and perspective and purpose out of the fallout of her previous life. Now given that second chance she becomes interesting to see because it wasn't just that she was a scheming person who had a change of heart and did some good thing. It wasn't just that she suffered a lot for a decision and it turned her allegiance to be in line with our heroes out of pragmatism, or had some epiphany moment and suddenly wanted to change into a good person while avoiding being held accountable or having to face their past. Peaches' was a relatively long road of having to break down the flawed and damaged remnants of who she was, and she did so while being held accountable and facing the social/legal and personal consequences of her actions. Being given basically a cosmic get-out-of-jail pass is the enabling aspect that she can then demonstrate that she's worth forgiveness or redemption but she (well and the show) put in the work to where she is able to earn it.

The stuff on Laconia isn't so much a "tease" for seasons that were never approved, so much as laying the groundwork for *anything* they decided to do with The Expanse once this show ended. The "Strange Dogs" story matters hugely in books seven, eight and nine; and if they ever get the funding for that -- or to do anything (games, whatever) that takes place in the 30-year interim between book 6 and book 7, they've prepped the ground.
@thontor
@thontor 5 ай бұрын
The Strange Dogs plotline was included so that we weren't left with hanging about what was going on with that protomolecule sample that Inaros gave Duarte at the end of last season. Also, it does set up a bit of what happens in later books. It does not connect back to the rest of the plot of season 6 though.

They knew it was the final season, but were limited by how much Amazon was going to give them. That’s why the final season had the fewest episode, they didn’t want to short change on the effects. they even told fans not to pressure Amazon for another season because apparently in the books, there’s a decades long time jump. So when they finally return, the actors would have aged somewhat to continue the story
@eds1942
@eds1942 5 ай бұрын
Yeah the Covid restrictions increased their costs and the time needed to get things done for this season. So they could afford to do 8 episodes as would be normally budgeted, or do 6 episodes and go all out with the effects. But yeah, they decided to end it with season 6 because there wouldn’t be any practical way of pulling off a 30 year time jump, short of recasting everyone, and nobody knew how long the Covid restrictions would last added to that decision.

Do you two know about the extra video shorts extra content for each episode for this season? They are really good as well. What is even more amazing about Drummer is she gets very little of what the show gives the character. They expanded the character solely because of how amazing Cara Gee did with it. And now again look at her being lead on a video game. Ooph on the girls bad day, as it ain't over yet. 😰 The book belter ship designs were even crazier. Like skyscraper iron grid meets Frank Llyode Wright with an engine strapped on. Haphazard shaped flat decks on top of each other with engines. Which worked because they were built in zero G, so there was no need to worry about aerodynamics. Just stacking for accelaration gravity.

Love the discussion about redemption =/= sacrifice. The saying goes "People don't change". My version is "You can't trust people to change until they already have changed". Cause change isn't from sacrifice. Change comes from WORK, from invested effort. And you can never trust someone who says that they INTEND to do work. You can trust someone who actually goes and does work. So I think it totally accurate to say that Clarissa is not sacrificing, she is building. Cause that is exactly what good change looks like.

Remember how George RR Martin never wrote the end to Game of Thrones, so the writers concocted a rushed fake ending that sucked? These writers did not make that mistake. Holden uselessly destroyed ship of doctors, and we haven't said anything about that. Naomi refused to destroy that Protomolecule sample, which is the source of all problem they're in now, including billions dead on earth...and we aren't saying anything about that. Clarissa _was_ pivotal in saving the Solar System before, and she's still working toward redemption now.
@briani4959

"Holden uselessly destroyed ship of doctors" if you're talking about Eros, the doctor lied when he said they didn't go inside, his crewmate got infected and died in the airlock. If the people on the ship had also been infected then they could have unwittingly spread the protomolecule to another population center. Given the lack of time to make the choice, I believe Holden made the right one.

I really enjoy redemption stories that don't hinge on the one big sacrifice moment, especially ones that don't resolve it with the character dying but instead show the character having to continually work on themselves. It shows redemption isn't a reward or or a gold star you get given, it's just a path you choose to walk every day by making better kinder choices. I also especially love it when a story does it with a character that was genuinely not a good person, rather than just the "good person who did a bad thing once" trope that it usually is. It's one of the reasons I loved the animated She-Ra reboot they did a few years ago as, despite its age rating, I thought they tackled that concept really well.

10:40 I think the Belters on the Azure Dragon saw the Rocinante and realized a Rock Spotter is no match for a Corvette Class Light Firgate, so they had to run because the Free Navy knows J.Holden defend the Razorback, while taking on a UNN Cruiser with nothing but 3x PDCs 8x Torpedos, & a D'm good plan. Otherwise seeing an MCRN Lt.Frigate might have a squad of marines & maybe 2x Goliath suits to throw at me. So you asked if they're setting up stuff for future seasons of this show...and yeah I guess they are. But This season has just been continuing to adapt things fairly faithfully from the books. And there are still 3 more books' worth of material after the show ends. (I don't think that's a spoiler, I think you guys already knew that based on stuff I heard you say in past videos?) However, there is some possible good news. I listen to the "Ty & That Guy" podcast all the time(it's a podcast that Ty Franck and Wes Chatham do together), and they were talking about how if Amazon doesn't do anything with The Expanse IP for 2 years, the rights revert back to Alcon, and they're looking into shopping it around to other streaming services to maybe finish the series. So who knows if that could ever happen? But it's a glimmer of hope.
@davebcf1231
@davebcf1231 5 ай бұрын
There's more than a glimmer of hope. Recently Alcon has been trying to get Amazon to release the rights back to them early because other streaming services have shown an interest in doing something with the IP. Alcon has been tight lipped about exactly what, but they're definitely still trying to do more with the franchise. They wouldn't be trying to get the rights back early on such a short contract if there weren't some solid offers coming their way.

With bobby and peaches on the ship. The threat assessment that bobby saw on her hud of the belter being a low threat would have been based on the suit computer assessing that against the armor. Were as peaches is wearing the basic vac suit. Not even the martin armor suit that holden and amos are wearing. Which is why bobby told peaches to stay behind her. Low threat to bobbies suit. Would be high threat to peaches suit.

The Laconia stuff with the girl is a plot that sets up future events. They knew it was their last season, but from my understanding they wanted to generate interest so that the series might be picked up again in the future.
