Too funny! I love this song. Shel Silverstein wrote the best story songs. I was in Kuwait in 2012 during Mardi Gras and worked with a Guard unit out of New Orleans. They built a float and we had a party without alcohol. They had a female Sgt Major that belted out Marie Laveu and we all sang along. It was a hoot. This is a deep rabbit hole and he's certainly an OG in my limited exposure to his music. The first time I heard Bobby Bare he was singing "Detroit City" in 1963 I believe. He has a huge amount of music and I and most is good I hear. Great choice Debra if he was your choice. Honestly the Who and the rest of the British Invasion got in the way of my roots! Some of his best are 'The Winner,' 'Greasy Grit Gravy' and 'Streets of Baltimore.' I like his version of 'Sylvia's Mother' more than Dr Hook's, and his version of 'Me And Bobby McGee is one of the best.
