1972-08-31. Last game of the WCC match (Sicilian Taimanov). Fischer played a line of the Sicilian that he had never before played as Black and further surprised Spassky with a novelty on move 8 (exd5). Equal middlegame, then advantage Fischer. The game was adjourned with an advantage for Fischer. The next day, the Arbiter informed Fischer that Spassky had resigned the game by telephone.

Fisher could only win using the pawns. His main goal was to get the extra queen. I’ve never liked him

No way to stop the a pawn from queening except to sacrifice the rook then game to white in either case.
