Bobby Kennedy's Day of Affirmation speech set to the soundtrack of the Social Network & Gladiator. The Day of Affirmation speech was a speech given by Robert F. Kennedy to National Union of South African Students members at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, on June 6, 1966. Kennedy, who was then a U.S. Senator from New York, gave the speech two years before his 1968 presidential campaign, which came to an end when Kennedy was assassinated on June 5, 1968 in Los Angeles.
Considered to be one of his greatest speeches, the Day of Affirmation Address, coupled with Ted Kennedy's eulogy for Bobby, offer precious words of wisdom decades after their initial utterance.

This still hurts to this day so much. For people who don't understand why, it's because he gave us HOPE.

They'll make sure that if hope is what you find, you can possibly hold onto it, but they'll be sure that's all you get. We must concede to the truism that they have an overwhelming ability to keep hope at bay. They're always reassured in this idea that they can dictate whether or not you ever find what was beyond the hope you were promised. Hope is fragile and vulnerable. Those who give us hope bear the heavy burden of living on the frontier of change, and with change comes great resistance. When you give yourself away to be a beacon of light, you're sure to attract all walks of life. Many are good, some indifferent, and some eager to snuff it out.

RFK grew up in a world of privilege, money and power. After JFK was assassinated, Bobby lost his soul. He was a shattered and broken man, but remarkably he re-discovered his purpose. He sought answers from African-American farm workers in the South, Latino migrants in the West, impoverished Whites in Appalachia and others on the sidelines of American life. In them, he witnessed inner strength. Among them he found his soul. What a loss to the country his death was...what a loss.

Show me Anyone of the current Creeps that have had Free Reign in The Swamp, that are perfect. At least He OWNS his imperfections and doesn't hide from Anything. @@shrector123 Nothing like his father? As a child he watched his uncle and father get butchered. He overcame addiction and a dark period in his life, to become an assistant DA and ultimately went on to become an environmental lawyer fighting against corrupt corporations and polluters. He's done incredible work trying to hold powerful people accountable. You don't have to agree with everything he believes, his dad wouldn't, but to call him a disgrace? Bobby would be proud of his son and his conviction. I lost my dad when I was young and its a hard road to walk without them around. I commend RFK Jr. For finding a calling.

I was a child and a Eugene McCarthy supporter. After Bobby's death, I realized how foolish I had been. McCarthy was fine but RFK was such a special guy. He changed after his brother's murder. He wanted to be a better, kinder, more compassionate man having learned humility through immense loss. Good man, gone too soon.

after Bobby was murdered, we lost a man who, through tragedy, found his voice thru great compassion. I will never forget my mother calling to wake me up by giving the news of Bobby being shot. He lingered for a day , holding on to life but lost his life. He was my Idol, a hero I looked up to and still do

One has to know when to lie low; Senator McCarthy had done all the trailblazing vs the LBJ war machine but RFK decided to steal the moment, not stopping to think about Nov. 22, 1963. Why did the Kennedy team not understand that the LBJ-Hoover-Texas Connection was never going to allow a Kennedy to become POTUS? Even Teddy got reckless in 1980 although both LBJ and Hoover were long gone. Nonetheless, it still wasn't safe for a Kennedy to aspire at that time. Teddy got brain in time.

my first thought when reading your post was to ask you how old you are. You write like submitting a term paper in college. Standard bio text does not reflect actually having lived during those years . so many books have been written to find fault with RFK and the whole Kennedy clan. They put their actions where their rhetoric was, they had courage to go out and campaign despite the threat to them. name one politician who has such courage today

Lanskee Shuru The naïve, subjective recollections of the Kennedy worshippers never cease to amaze. E.g. there was Bobby, calling Jimmy Hoffa "a girl", even though Jimmy was a WWII vet, while Bobby, unlike his three brothers, did not serve. Here was a man with 11 children who rarely found time to spend with them. Here's a speech, pure political jive, syrup-sweet, signifying nothing.
@ronaldzarr1348
@ronaldzarr1348 10 жыл бұрын
Ronald Zarr Indeed, Bobby knew he was safe in attacking Hoffa from a position of safety, given the fact that the real girl was Bobby, a wimp vs a genuine tough guy such as Hoffa. There was no reason to pick a fight with the Teamsters except for personal aggrandizement. No, RFK was no hero; brothers Joe and John were but not the "girl."

Unbelievably great in every sense. What a thinker, human being, politician and leader. And what a loss to the world and all of us. His speech on Martin Luther King's assassination was equally moving and equally timely and vitally fundamentally important. The loss of people like Bobby Kennedy may help explain why the world is so troubled today as we built walls instead of bridges, haven't helped the poor and ill and the deprived worldwide because all of the mostly free-world support for these cause is channelled through corrupt regimes that syphon off the money. Equally, we have used up scarce resources while increasingly damaging the planet, possibly in irrecoverable ways, over time. There is no way of knowing if Bobby Kennedy could actually have made a difference in the face of greed, war, famine and poverty in his day, but he is one of only a few great speakers and powerful politicians, who have ever voiced such a vision anywhere, at any time, and at at time of great need, in history. He was not welcomed by South Africa's (white) political elite when he gave this "Day of Affirmation" address ostensibly to students, but in reality to the world, but after it, the elite surely knew that the writing was on the wall in the cities and ghettos - and so it proved to be before the end of the Century. Such a loss for all of us. John

RFK was the last honest politician, who actually empathised with the poor, downtrodden and helpless with a conscience and sense of morality he developed at a very tender age. Campaign Manager, Attorney General, Executive Overseer, Controller of Patronage, Brother Protector. Could an aspiring political scientist, or anyone for that matter, ask for a better person to look up to? Undoubtedly not. RIP Bobby.

If he had ben JFK murderers would have been executed probably the people would have demanded it be done publicly for the first time in that period over 35-40 years since, the early 1930s, I believe 1933 was the last public hanging in America. He was a friend of Egypt's Nasser and like his brother Jack hated Israeli actions in the region and their Nuclear program, even threatening to allow Nasser's National Socialist Egypt, to get the Nuke and as Nasser said "Israel mere existence is an affront to humanity" and he went on to layabout his main Muslim rivals the Saudi Islamist dogs "My brother Arabs, my brother Yemeni's, raise up, raise up and grab the Emir (King), by his rags, grab him by his neck and take him to Tahrir Square (Liberation Square), then hang him and his entire family. This was on Radio Free Arab and Radio Egypt to the World after he had used poison gas on the Saudi's and drove them out of Yemen in the 1960s, which, by law is the only legal use of poison gas on active military men away from built up civilian area's, it is why a recennt example when Russian Air Force dropped WP Shells (like Israel does on built up Gaza illegally), it dropped these shells on ISIS an al Qaeda members in Southern Aleppo and this was legal why? Countryside and relatively minimal civilian casualties of war would be inflicted but to the spirit of the law, if you use these weapons and damage innocent peoples homes and livelihood where it could have been avoided, that nation/ army is meant to recompense or compensate that civilian victim, usually happens when the war is over and Assad a mentor of Nasser (like Gaddafi was who exposed to a speech to Obama the Israel and Ben Gurion role in JFK murder). So if RFK or JFK was able to complete their work, there would be no Mafia or Organised Crime problem in the USA today, there would be no corruption from big oil by the removal of the Oil Depletion Allowance aka Socialism for big Corporations. He had issued the first Silver Back Currency in America issued by the Treasury over the Fed, since Abe Lincoln and his Green Backs. His executive Order 1110 was not meant to shut down the Fed, but curtail it and drastically revise it away from debt based interest rate economics, towards backed currency which, caps how much can be printed and it also, contain the problem of inflation/ hyperinflation or even deflationary problems. If they had triumphed the American and Muslim World would be strong allies but not of Saudi's and Qatari scum, but of the likes of Secular Muslim leaders like in the Lebanon, Assad's Syria, like Egypt would have turned out majorly different, no Mubarak and then Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, Nasser in 153 when they tried to kill him, cracked down and had all Communists and all Muslim Brotherhood active members jailed, he had the Brotherhood leaders executed, he had all the Jews of Cairo kicked out of Egypt after the 1956 Suez War. America and Gaddafi Libya would be friends and comrades imagine that no 1986 failure by Raegan to kill Brother Leader in his Tent of which, he just walked out of it without a scratch, went got international media in Tripoli and told them to come with him, he informed them of the attack and assassination attempt (illegal under US Federal Law for a Us President to order the assassination of another nation's leader), Kennedy's banned this between 1960-1963. So there would be no War on Terrorism, no $20trillion debt and growing by the second due to interest rates incurred on them. There would of been no 9/11 because the course of history would have been changed. Israel would know its place or simple dissolved under its own lies and tyranny against the indigenous Palestinian people of Secular, Muslim, Christian and yes Jewish Mizrahim origin. America today, would be a beacon to the World and not hated by the World for its Global Police Man ethics and like with Libya 2011 demanding respect for people to protest freely without facing any oppression, while America in America to Americans sent out the Police with weapons to beat and smash protests against the Republicans and Democrats and Wall Stress, OWS for instance was a great ideal (it is where the origins of the Trump and Sanders people, the only time they united was under OWS), people see this and are like why is America asking of us, more than it can ask of itself and requires of itself. That angers us all even your closest of closest allies in Britain. So all we hate about America could have been avoided, . No Global Policeman, 2. No War Mongering, 3. No double standards and hypocrisy.

There hasn't been another like him or his brother. Again, I'm so glad this was recorded. At least he left us with his eloquent words that are inspirational and much needed in our troubled world today.

We should try to be not so preoccupied by sight and sound: To think of peace, freedom, compassion, love and faith, all of which are silent and invisible. Robert F. Whenever RFK is mentioned the first thing I think of is a man who had real compassion and empathy for those less fortunate and those hurting and in pain. How better off we'd be today had he lived and become president! I really believe that. Just look at how he went after the mob especially with his families history and JFK's in particular with them. Any other politician in RFK's shoes would NEVER have done what Bobby did. They would've run as far away as possible from those hearings!

We had four prophets in the 20th century...Gandhi, mlk, rfk, and lennon..all 4 gunned down by goverments afraid of peace and love....the end of the united states came in 1968....what could and should have been....when people rally everyone to one cause, they have to be eliminated...that is the pain of this world...even when u look at lincoln and jesus, all 6 eliminated because of thier love for peace and the truth...i am in pain knowing that this country has no leaders anymore..god bless all of you...

A prophet is someone who tells the truth before their time. And in the past all great philosophers, scientists, poets, inspired leaders, ETC all came bearing a message for humanity, and they paid the ultimate price for it. If they were not killed they were made outcasts only to be celebrated in the time to come. Thanks to the internet the good guys can win, the truth can spread and now it can't be stopped or denied. For the first time we can put all the pieces of the puzzle together and see the ultimate truth of life. Google *_Truth Contest_* and check the truth for yourself. Nothing could be more important or worthwhile than checking the truth for yourself.

+All that is now Like Bill Hicks said, "we kill all our Prophets". Although I believe that than an age of love, truth and enlightenment is within our grasp and that we'll reach it in the near future, I also believe that Robert (along with his brother and a few other Prophets-also dead before their time) was the last hope we had to bring that age into being within our lifetime. The darkness of their fear will never fully eclipse and snuff out the light of Bobby's and our and the rest of the Human race's Love! :)

Not as long as we vote for the lesser of two evils. No as long as we vote for sloganeering hucksters who offer two word platitudes, hope and change, as bait for suckers. Not until we hold our own selves to a higher standard, and don't vote for evils. Not until 99% of the voters cast the same non vote for the two non choices we are offered each year. No government, elected by 1% of the total electorate can claim to be justly constituted or represented. Not until we hold ourselves upright as men.
