Apparently when Angelo Badalamenti was recording the rap vocals, David Lynch laughed so hard he got a hernia and had to go to the hospital that night.

this is seriously one of my favorite directing moments in lynch's whole career. this scene is absurd, funny, thematically appropriate, and executed perfectly. all the student extras do their weird lil struts, stumbles, and dances so well. it's wonderful
@slobonmyfilmsnob3 жыл бұрын
this is the coolest moment in not only the entire film, but the entire series. nothing crazy happens, there isnt this big science fiction showdown that occurs, it's just - so..... cool.

If I had to analyze I’d suggest this is maybe meant to reference the red room, with the wannabe-moonwalk, music in the air (everyone’s loony), and red doors. Or maybe I’m wrong and it’s just Bobby emanating radical confidence onto everyone

His arms are bent backwards. At least that is what I could see lynch directing him with “I want to you walk backwards, but you’re dancing, your arms are bending back and you’re walking back and you’re dancing. It’s a wonderful thing, there’s music in the air and you’re bending your arms back dancing, you’re walking backwards, it’s great stuff”

I'm always curious to see how old movie locations look like today. It changed a lot, for this take. The overhang and white supporting beams of the school is no longer, and the grass is now fenced off. Changed quite a lot! This is the exact field they're standing on: 47.917826, -122.099022 (Google Maps). I can see an old photo from 2008 and the overhang was still there, but gone in the 2013 photos.
