Man you have a one year old pup, he is doing well for that point! To be honest, I have always waited to hunt until two and they don't break (my two year old baby girl is firing off on her first season and my 9 1/2 year old guy gets to retire and hang out with his mom😊), that's my personal approach. But the way you're working with Fred is spot on!

I shoot Federal and HeviShot tungsten loads- 3” threes. Deadly loads at distance. More importantly, the pellets typically go through the ducks or lodge in bone, lowering the risk of chomping a pellet. They’re pricey for sure, but you can find em on sale from time to time. Once you use em, you’ll never go back.

The goose 6 deks came back with 4 broken heads cracked out of the bodys, he lost the ducks, duck bag and the pole. I will use the headless ones now, thanks for the tip that they don't need heads to work.

Tungsten does kill like nobody's business. I have had passed throughs on geese with number 4 tungsten. With that being said it is extremely dense in mass which also means that you have far fewer pellets per ounce of shot and therefore your patterns are not nearly as dense in coverage. This is important to remember because while tungsten may be capable of killing at 80 yards the load and choke you are shooting may not be capable of throwing a killing pattern anywhere near that far. The only way you can know for sure is to go and pattern your shotgun. Even at the standard 40 yards fewer pellets down range mean fewer pellets on target period. Everything is a compromise.
@ItzBraxxis
@ItzBraxxis 3 жыл бұрын
But if you normally use #2 steel you can get the same killing power with #4 tungsten meaning you actually get more shot down range?

My favorite shotgun is an ithaca 37 from the 80's, 12 gauge, fixed full choke in a 30" barrel. Steel shot isn't an option, and only 2-3/4 " shells. Tungsten and bismuth are worth the money when that's all you can shoot with your gear of choice. I don't shoot non-tox enough for the $37/box to really hurt me all that much, being that most of my quarry is upland and doesn't require nontox.

They are definitely worth it for the small bores. I load a ton of 410 and 28 ga and 1/2 oz of tss in a 410 is plenty to down ducks at ranges you'd typically be using a 3" or 3.5" 12 ga with steel. I got in on a bulk purchase of tss and it came out to $39/lb so about $30 for a box of shells

have you ever had trouble with federal speed shok's jamming/ not feeding? I have a Beretta A350 xtrema. I have had it going on 3 years and NEVER had a single hiccup. In the past couple hunts, I've had it not feed 3 times. I shoot a few different types of shells but it's only done it on those Fed 3 1/2" #2s. I read on a forum that the Feds are a hair longer than other shells. I took some Blind Sides and Remington shells and compared them and the Feds were like 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch longer. Only reason I ask is because I know you say you shoot those Fed blue boxes... thanks man ! keep up the channel its awesome.
