Not sure if it's what you were going for, but the vibe on that track feels very much like the outro of "Faithfully" by Journey - just need that Perry vocal singing us out. I think I may try something like this on a song I'm working on now. Cheers!

Think I would have made the shakes a stereo track and then used the stereo pan feature in Cubase to give them more spread to let them fill the background abit more...

What do you do with the tambourine during the Snare fill? The tambourine continuing the same rhythm through the Snare fill didn't feel right to me.
@tonymorgan147
@tonymorgan147 8 ай бұрын
Let me try to clarify. I like the technique you are using to achieve a more effective tambourine in the mix. What I am wondering is whether or not a "close enough"...or maybe a lazy version to achieve a similar result is possible. One of the aspects you were recommending is to have reverb (or big reverb) on the tambourine hits, not the shakes, so not to muddy the overall mix. Can trigger reverb (side chain or via midi time code) on the hits give a "close enough" result? This doesn't resolve the shake but depending on the (full) desired effect, it may be enough. I don't know if a threshold can be set on the reverb or a gate with a "practical" roll off would be required. One thing I am hoping to achieve is less of a copy and paste aspect. It may not be noticeable but it is something I strive for...when practical.
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 8 ай бұрын
I’m not quite sure but as far as copy/paste I just did that for the video. You could just go through the tambourine part and take out all the hits and out them on a separate track. If you have an edit at transient tool it wouldn’t take long to separate all those out!

Is there a practical way to trigger the reverb just on the tambourine hits or does that option go away once the "shakes" are volume compensated? Can the tambourine hits' reverb be triggered via midi on the snare hits in a practical manner?

@BobbyHuff

@@emrahalpat yes! You could automate the reverb but I’m not sure you would get that beautiful tail of the verb if you had to quickly automate down the send for the shake.

If you're going to separate them anyway, why not just record the shaker part on one track and the hits on a separate track to begin with?

what you are doing with the tambourine isn't a natural sound. Your title should have been: "Tambourine edits, panning and reverb!"
@BobbyHuff

Sorry I don’t understand your comment…? What is a natural sound and why should it be a natural sound?
@phillysfinestradio2863
@phillysfinestradio2863 8 ай бұрын
@BobbyHuff instead of doing all the surgical moves, I would have 2 tambourines in the mix. 1 playing normally, and the second one (louder) and only hit when the snare hits, and adjust your reverbs individually. Natural sounds would be how the bands from the 60s and 70s recorded. Think Beatles. Keep it simple.

A non-sequiter in your title.......If the pros are not telling us and you are telling us, then the logical conclusion is that 1, you are not a professional because you are telling us and 2, if you are a professional, then won't the other pros get angry at you for telling their secrets? A good way to get thrown out of the pro club to be sure. Cheers
