The canine species is undoubtedly intelligent. Felines are also intelligent, but in a different way. The ability for canines to communicate and orchestrate an attack on animals many times their size takes skill and intelligence. Sly as a fox, wiley coyote are phrases used to describe intelligence. I agree that felines alone are very efficient hunters, but it doesn't make them more intelligent. Coyotes,wolves,foxes are very resilient, and resourceful creatures.

Bobcats are very resilient and powerful. In a one on one confrontation, it's likely that the bobcat would pin the coyote down and destroy its neck. Felines are extremely strong pound for pound as they are solitary hunters. I know a farmer with a 20+ lb cat that beat off a Coyote with only minor injuries. Bobcats are larger, tougher and far more experienced than any kind of domestic cat.

That cat was defending its kill but the coyote's persistence paid off. The cat probably could have slapped the shit out of the dog's nose, but it figured why risk the injury to self. If it won the fight but was left too wounded to hunt then it would still lose in the end. ***Wild cats tend to reason better than wild dogs in that respect.***

Cat is equal to a Raptor Dino, Coyote is basically a big dinner if cat choose so. Notice the cat stands ground and actually slightly advances on coyote forcing him to turn and circle away to keep distance. There's a reason there was a coyote always getting slammed on the Roadrunner" show, they are not the brightest wild animals. Cats on the other hand are like 8 level chess players, and cat is top predictor in almost any situation. Thanks for sharing this, very awesome!

We have multiple coyotes and bobcats in our neighborhood, along with double the number of raccoons. People on our neighborhood listserv have reported seeing what looks like coyotes and bobcats hunting together and raccoons and bobcats hunting together. I have never seen this evidence personally, but I have witnessed all three types acting more like urban domestic animals than feral. In the case of the bobcats, they prefer driveways and steps to the ground, and if anybody leaves garage doors open, they quickly enter.

*_I have a cluster of Bobcats living in my woods. They normally move on i believe but because they have a river nearby, tons of wildlife & no poachers i think these have changed their habits. I walk or drive the ATV along the track which cuts about 15 yards from where their den is & they used to hiss & spit at me but now they just look at me. I have a pack of 5 Belgian Malinois that go everywhere with me & they dont even pay attention to each other no more. I carry my short barreled AR-15 when going thru the woods because their is the extremely small chance a cat might attack or a mountain lion even. The kids {aged from from 13 to 19} also carry the Tactical AR plus the Glock 30 .45ACP. My daughter did run into one of the Bobcats [no harm done] but i always told the kid's to just continue along the path with weapon raised on full auto & the cat will always move off to the side. Otherwise shoot it. Because the only reason i dont run them off is because they can never get in near my animals or home, pasture plus i notice less coyotes about & finally, they got no farmers to bother for over 20 miles so they live on what they catch in the area so their better off where they are_*

That's called prey testing, Coyotes always push to see what they can get away with, and they never retreat more than they're forced to. If the cat had shown any sign of weakness, the coyote would have attacked.

Both hunt smaller animals (birds, squirrels, mice) so it seems more like the coyote was trying to intimidate the bobcat to get out of its hunting territory.

I would imagine that your dog barks when it sees anything invading her territory [your yard]. It probably also marks its territory. Cats are keen to this and avoid needless confrontations. Most animals prefer to avoid confrontations. Unless it is mating season, the animal is defending its territory, its food, itself, or its young, there is no reason why an animal will risk injury by unnecessarily fighting.

Guys I went to Animal college and can confirm that coyote would literally SHAKE THAT BOBCAT to shredds. This isn't a lowly Fox.

Coyotes while smart are NOT more intelligent then a bobcat.

It was funny seeing the bobcat walking sideways and arcing its back just as a domestic housecat would do when frightened. Good thing they seperated, while the coyote would get hurt some, it could kill that kill easy. Cats don't have the bite strength of canines, no way to quickly cripple or kill. The cat, outside of a throat bite, has no way to truly hurt the coyote, which outweighs it by double at least too.
