Such a shame those great American brands sold out. I’m in the UK and American kit is always supreme in my opinion.

My guess is the Stihl had a better chain. Lots of variables just in chains alone. I like them both. Lots of peeps say they love the way a Mac sounds. I really like the way a Stihl sounds when it idles. Sounds like a Harley chainsaw, Lol. Both great manufacturers, its just too bad the newer Macs aren't what they used to be. They made some great saws.

Something wasn't right with the Mac saw, it shouldn't have been that much slower. Watch Buckin Billy Ray Smith videos, he has many of these old Macs, and he makes em scream, he loves em.

I noticed that he only hit the oiler twice on the mac, it having a diaphragm oiler I bet the b/c were dry as a bone. When the bar was completely in the log flat the chips were small to nonexistent which probably means the railed are knurled and lopsided from lack of oil.

All six of my saws are 4.3 McCulloch type. I assure that I can get any one of them to cut with that Sthil. The Mc wasn't cutting in its power band. Time the Mc at 26 deg and keep the engine in its power range. Chips looked peculiar coming off McCulloch and it sounded too fat on high speed adj. not letting it come up into its power. Timing and or high speed adjustment.

Mac sounds better. Fast saws scorch chains in very hard wood. Once the chain softens up from heat good luck keeping it sharp

Oh hell no they didnt. Ill take a pro mac over a stihl any day. Stihl is not what it used to be and they never were that great
@garywhitmerwhitmer67863 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what everybody says but I remember the days when sthil saws were not around we had Home lights mcCullers and we would work on them more than cut with them I cut 10,000 tank of wood on a 028 sthil and did nothing but put gas and oil and sharpen the chain your pro Mac whatever will never cut with a old 044 or 036 I don’t care what you say ain’t going to happen
@notavailable73793 жыл бұрын
@@garywhitmerwhitmer6786 well man you sound extremely uneducated on and ignorant of the subject. Manufacturers like stihl and husqvarna were suppressed by McCulloch, Poulan and Homelite. Stihl and husqvarna didnt take off in the USA until McCulloch, Poulan and Homelite were bought out and run into the ground. There are numerous saws that did and still will give your 036 and 044 a run for their money.

I’m not going to argue with you dumb ass you we cut wood all my life and Stihl is by far the most reliable saw I’m not saying the fastest but they just keep cutting and I’m talking about the pro class saws my 036 is 20 years old and it starts with the 2nd pull every time let it set up all summer I can always count on it

If you considered that the the Mac is twice as old as the stihl ,and this guy didn’t swap out and use the same chain you can’t say it was a good test. Watch some of Buckin Billy Ray smith where he dose swap out chains you’ll see that these old macs can hold there own . And like I say the macs are old enough to be thier grand paw
