For how good ID4 is, I’m expecting Skoda’s equivalent Enyaq to be just that few% BETTER, and also slightly cheaper! It’s very encouraging, and - as is shown - probably the best electric car release of the year!
@steven1025

Well it’s far more expensive in Ireland than the VW. €44,000 for 77kw ID4 versus €48,000 for equivalent Skoda Enyaq
@Mekuso8
@Mekuso8 3 жыл бұрын
I thought so too, but take a look at their configurators. The ID.4 City (which has a 55 kWh battery) is cheaper than the Enyaq 60, and the ID.4 City comes with a lot of things that cost extra on the Enyaq. So it really depends on what battery size you want and what extras you want included or are ready to pay for.

I also have a mk7 golf R and in view of these screens, lets hope VW has done a better job since their screen are know to "freeze" in cold weather. One of the main things I wanted was the climate windscreen as to make winter time easy and I now cant turn it on when the weather is very cold which kind of defeats the object. And yet, because it’s a personal preference, wouldn’t it be better to have the option of a head up display at least? It’s actually something Tesla could make a profit on and wouldn’t be out of place in any Tesla. And Tesla’s refusal to deal with Apple carplay or Android auto is just shortsighted. You can crack on about how good their software is, but bottom line is people are paying for features on their mobile phones and their smart homes that they can’t access in a Tesla. You can have the best product, but not paying attention to what your consumers want leads to loss of market share.

Only two things missing - no mention of power output and no looking under the boot floor to see whether it can take a proper spare or whether a puncture will leave you stranded.

@@peglor I agree with your points. But how many non-sport/GTI versions buyers of the Golf care. They want a reliable car, and the Golf represents that. As for the replacement of a spare wheel with the glue and electric pump used in most modern cars, am not sure how much of an issue it is. The car companies would have included spare wheels if the public demanded it, wouldn’t they? Do dealers still sell spare/space saver wheels?

@@actuallypaulstanley Spare wheels have been removed to reduce weight and cost and improve fuel efficiency figures. No customer demands a car that leaves them stranded. Tyres are pretty reliable these days, but there's a huge difference between losing 15 minutes changing the wheel yourself due to a puncture, which you can repair at your leisure and losing 3 hours waiting for a recovery van and paying the price of another tyre for the privilege. Fitting extra large alloys also increases the chance of destroying a tyre hitting a square edge on a pothole too (And of bending the alloy). There are a lot of modern cars especially electric ones that have no space for a spare tyre at all - which is specifically why I'm asking the question. Definitely don't think this is consumer demand - this is marketing wankers and bean counters giving us worse products with higher profit margins for themselves, while selling it as doing us a favour.

peglor reduced costs for the benefit of the manufacturer is a good point; additional profit and PR for economy, boot space, etc. I cannot remember when I last had a spare wheel in a car across all German makes and one Swedish. But, I have never experienced an issue where the 'puncture repair kit' could not be used. I live in London, so have lots of experience of potholes, poor surfaces, and such like. In a way, am lucky that there are also plenty of places to have the tyre repaired, generally the same day.

@@actuallypaulstanley Living in London and using a car to get around sounds like complete misery compared to almost any other option available :-(. Where I live the roads are bad, but they're quiet enough that you can easily be doing the 100 km/h speed limit when you do hit something, so a high profile tyre and a proper spare are musts to not write off your wheel and spend ages waiting for recovery. The issue I have isn't so much the baseline spec for cars not including a spare, more that you literally can't fit a spare anywhere on some modern designs, particularly electric cars, which is a major step backwards. Motor vehicle manufacturers want you to pay the full money for your car but limit you to the dealer network only for repair and customisation options as if you were only renting it (Tesla and John Deere being far and away the worst offenders on this). Not even considering the provision of basic tools for roadside repairs is the natural conclusion for this. Thankfully EU laws on the right to repair will hopefully slow them down a little in this mission, but it's worth billions in unearned profits to lock owners out of working on their own vehicles.

So Bob Flavin, I have a question for you comparing the id4 vs Kia e-Niro? I’ve seen both your reviews and wondering about seat comfort, overall driving & noise level? Thanks, Jade in BC, Canada

Good review of good ev. Impressed with Quality of build. But Ireland probably get lower spec with options. Again high price but seems get into ev vehicle you have to pay high price. The mg ev you got is good option at lower price

I see the battery goes in the boot. How many Duracell batteries does it need, one or more ? It's definitely the way forward. Very handy indeed. Nice car...👍👍

Buttons VW! Buttons! This is what we want in cars.. not touchy crap where we turn on the radio when we want to adjust the clima even while our eyes are off the road... wtf? The traditional VW Climatronic has nice big wheels and big buttons and you can adjust it without taking your eyes off the road... come on!

75k€? Not really. A fully equipped ID4 Pro Performance Max costs 58445€ with custom rims, color and tow hook. How I know that? I ordered mine one week ago. The dealer also gave me winter tires for free.
