The next generation of wearable activity sensors may not be strap-on devices like a Fit Bits or Apple Watches, but rather smart fabric. The smart threads or fabric patches would be sewn into clothing and offer instant, continuous monitoring of body movement. The smart fabric technology being developed at the UMass Amherst Institute of Applied Life Sciences, could help doctors assess medical conditions. Connecting Point’s Jenna Berkowitz visited the lab to get a look at how this technology could impact us in the very near future.
