Filipino Cave Divers

10 жыл бұрын

NOTE: Due to its graphic nature, there is NO visible shot taken of the victim out of respect for the family and loved ones of the deceased. This is a glimpse of the challenges the Philippine Coast Guard, NAVY and Volunteer technical divers faced in order to extract a victim from deep inside the M/V "Thomas Aquinas" wreck.

@@rustyshackleford6693 As spaceflight becomes more common, perhaps even private spacecrafts someday becoming a thing FAR in the future, yeah, body recovery may be necessary. I mean, Hell, I hope it never bloody happens, but there's probably people on the International Space Station RIGHT NOW. If space debris or a rock or something of sufficient size/weight/velocity were to strike, it could lead to deaths. Then a team would have to head up there to recover the bodies. If a body or two actually LEFT the space station in the process, I imagine somehow those bodies would be tracked from Earth with dedicated missions made to recover them. And an accident like that could happen tomorrow, or even today. While doing some random reading-up this morning about space debris I learned that in the 1990s a woman in Oklahoma was struck by fabric space debris which didn't injure her, then a 6 year old in China earlier this century was the first to actually be directly injured by space debris (including a crushed toe), and there's another incident where some livestock was injured/killed because of space debris. So yeah, there's a lot of junk up there, and some of it may be moving at speed. Ideally, hopefully, just as nobody has died in space for more than 50 years now (only 3 people total have died in space), hopefully nobody ever will again. But if spaceflight becomes more common... how can it not be an inevitability? The respectful thing, if at all possible, is to retrieve bodies. David Shaw, a HIGHLY experienced and professional diver, died trying to retrieve an old body deep within a cave that had been there so long that allegedly the exposed head and hands had both skeletonized however the goggles eerily remained properly on the skull. People will go at great lengths to retrieve the fallen, and good for them for doing so.

I have seen the complete footage, and that body had become extremely buoyant due to decomposition. It was hellishly difficult to even move the body to where it could be moved to outside of the hull. Once the tethering line securing the body to the wreck was cut, the body rocketed towards the surface, unaided by any lift bags. I do not believe that it can be possible to do this horrendous task without it having lasting psychological effects on the men that do it. I am concerned for their health and wellbeing long after the task has ended. There can be fewer more horrific things to have to do, in such a deadly and nightmarish environment than this, particularly when decomposition or injuries have taken a toll on the victims. I personally do not believe that I could deal with the psychological effects of such tasks, and admire and respect those that can.
