In this video I start body working my 1965 Ford Mustang. We use autobody filler from Evercoat. We also end up painting it in 2K epoxy primer.

Hello! Fellow 65 Mustang owner here. Thanks for inspiring me with my project. I just recently found this series and watched through it in a day. It’s been going kind of slow with money and all, sure you can relate! Maybe I’ll start a channel to fund for it. 🤔 Keep up the great work!

Spending my Saturday watching your body working and Opti flow videos and reading all of the comments since I am a newbie. It is 95 degrees outside with high humidity, so I am waiting for it to cool down some before I go out and do some sanding on the fender that I am getting ready for paint. I ran into a problem of some rust stains leaking through the Epoxy primer because we had an unexpected rain that got the fender wet before the Epoxy had a chance to cure. My plan is to completely remove the primer and hit it with fast etch to get rid of the flash rust. I have "liked " your videos and have subscribed.

Great video! I've been waiting for a new update. My Dad owned and ran his own auto body business for years. After school and on the weekends, I would watch him work. He would have killed for some of the new tools currently on the market back then. Can't wait for the next one.

lot of hard work on your part but it will pay off, the biggest thing that stand out to me is your sanding. I usually start with a DA sander to get the high filler off to the stage a block can take over, sand at 45 degrees and alter directions, stay on one area before moving on. You were moving all over the place and not finishing what you started. Good luck with the project.
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds Ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I'm starting to figure that out. Definitely a first time learning experience for me. Going to do one panel at a time and work in smaller areas on the rest of the car. Also going to have to redo some of what I've done already, but that's ok b/c I'm learning! Hopefully my skills will improve with each new project. Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated!

Yo nice to see your progress on the project, such a bummer with the hardener, and twice the work on it :( When you get to the interior, could you take a little extra time explaining the instrument cluster and especially the temp gauge, if you go original with it? Struggling with mine being dead and can't figure out what's bugging it! Always cool to watch your vids and the build man, appreciate it!
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds Ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I already did the interior in previous videos. I didn't really show the gauge cluster though. I had the toughest time getting the speedometer cable back in though, it took me forever. I also replaced all of the bulbs with LED's that I bought off amazon. Only thing is when I went to put it back together I realized I forgot to label everything so I have some lights out of place. Going to have to take it back apart and put things in correctly. I also have no clue if my guages actually work yet. I haven't tested the fuel or speedometer.

Keep grinding, shes coming along nicely 👌 I finally got my 67 convertible mustang into my mechanics shop and I understand the frustration. Supposedly had a new cam put in it but it wasn't. So we are going back to scratch waiting to see if we have to replace the cam and if so going to buy the complete kit at the same time. Frustrating thing was a good set of heads and a cam kit went missing during shipping so possibly another $1000+ in replacement parts.

I'm going to use a high build after I finish all of the body work to fill scratches and other imperfections. Just wanted to use a less expensive 2K epoxy for direct to metal first.

It’s always best to work one panel at a time. Coating the whole car in body filler once can be very daunting.
@VanHoutenBuilds
@VanHoutenBuilds Ай бұрын
Yeah I learned that after doing this. Moving forward I'm only going to do one panel at a time for the rest.

One more thing. To get that driver fender to line up, loosen the bolts that hold it in place and get a body shim kit. Most NAPA autos have them. Stick a 1/8” shim in the bottom bolt, between the body and the fender, it will draw the fender down and straighten your body line and make everything look nice and straight.
@VanHoutenBuilds

I think you should go easy on the guys from Summit. Go to them for the things you can’t get from your neighborhood corner parts store, like rebuilt hi-po engines. Seems like asking them for advice on mundane parts is kinda insulting to them.

Shame seeing that much bond ruins a car really to actually rest you need to hammer that out til' it's straight. Yeah it takes forever and it sucks but that's the point of calling it fully restored and that's the reason why no one pays nobodies to "rest" their stuff. Cool project keep it up
