I prefer the old Jurassic (100/200) vs the New Generation (600-900) or Classic (300-500) series. The old one just has more personality and the noise it makes it music to the ear!

Jet-loaferguy73 personally I prefer the new generation 737. I live the winglets and the larger engines! If only the NG has chevron engines, it would’ve been the best looking.

@@aaryandabra01 but nobody can argue the personality of the 731-732, those engines roared, and they are a symbol of the bygone era of the legendary jetliners, it was the last of its kind...

I have always preferred the NG variants, but that is mainly because I like new things. I have flown in both, and found the NGs quieter and more comfortable. Having worked at JNB, one always knew when the Old Gen. 737s were taking off or landing, as they were much noisier than any other aircraft. There is a mod. that quietens them down, but most didn't do this. But yeah, the Old Gen. gets my vote for "Sexiest Reverse Thrusters" on the 737.

When I took my first flight in a 300 it was like going from a Ford Trimotor to first class on the Connie. You had screen that came out of the side of the overhead unit, the seats were much nicer, with bins that seemed to give you more headroom. I don’t recall what the seat controls were like in the 100 or 200; but the 300 had the reading light and fan controls in an easy to reach area. America West had a single 100 used for the Phoenix Suns charter, a handful of 200’s along with a bunch of 300’s. For cross country flights they used the incomparable757 or a 747-200 JFK-LAS-PHX flt 711. After cleaning it went onto HNL then Nagoya. You might get to ride in the 100; 200; 737-300 If It were off basketball season.

I remember seeing a few with those long "Cigars" hanging from the wings!! I rode aboard a couple of them back in the 1990s. Always thought that they looked kinda "stumpy". I've heard ead that some of those old ones did get retro-fitted with the newer High-Bypass Engines! That certainly made the plane look less "stumpy"!! All of the more modern 737s are gorgeous!!

+scotrail82 I absoulety agree. If you hear a 777's engines roar that's one of the most beautiful and powerful sounds you will ever hear but NGs like the 787 you can't hear a peep from it. It's like a Porshe 911-ROOM ROOM!!! and a Hybrid 911 pulls up-"......"

The cfm-56 is a beautiful engine, but nothing matches that deep rumble, that visceral shake you from inside out exhaust note that the JT8D of the 100/200 series of 737 had. The 727 packing 3 JT8D's was a long distance inside out massage. Frickin miss the 737-100/200, and the 727. Esp watching from behind as those engines spooled up to 100%, just...... amazing.

I flew back home (florida) a couple months back. on the way down I got to fly on a 737-300 , on the way back a 737-700. I have to say judging on the flight experience, the 300 was by far a better ride. The 700 made all kinds of noises on the descent , and just seemed to be a rougher ride over all. Could have been more turbulence on the trip back but who knows. That old 300 wich was 1st flown in 92 was a Cadillac.
