Why is the ND screen on the co-pilot's seat wider than the pilots ND screen?
@user-dc5xi4nt3b4 жыл бұрын
The pilots can choose what they would like to show on their screens I believe. They can put up to two screens on one
@slo13834 жыл бұрын
The Boeing 787 has 4 screens, meaning there is essentially no central display where on most panels you would find the engine instruments (in Boeing terms the 'EICAS' display). Therefore the EICAS display must be displayed on either the Captain's or the First Officer's inner display, which means there is only half the screen available for the navigational display. It's still plenty big enough though, and the other screen can display a very big ND, with lots of data. So who gets to have the EICAS? It depends on company SOPs - I've seen PF on some, but more often I find PNF has the EICAS, since they are the pilot monitoring the aircraft parameters.
@737Garrus Жыл бұрын
Good sight and good point. The dashboard is populated by, among other things, 4 equally large Displays. Since they're Displays similar to Your PC Monitor or Phone Screen, they can show a multitude of things at different times or simultaneously, depending on what the user selects to display. The 1st Officer's ND is seemingly bigger than the Pilot's ND because the Pilot's Display shows 2 things simultaneously, those things currently being the ND & Engine Instrumentation. The latter can probably be moved to the 1st Officer's side, giving the Pilot the larger ND. There are likely other Instruments that can be displayed alongside with the Artificial Horizon & ND depending on user preference or currently given situation.

Thank God they still insist on the classical rudder and not switching to that idiotic joystick trend. I believe that the joystick control contributed to many crashes in Airbuses.
@surfertufer19872 жыл бұрын
What is the alternative to a classic rudder? No rudder control? Not familiar with many aircraft that have that. And Airbus aircraft have sidesticks, not joysticks. Also could you provide a source for the claim that sidesticks contribute to crashes pls.
@nick066hu2 жыл бұрын
@@surfertufer1987 By saying joysticks I was meaning the sidesticks (I intentionally chose a word with a similar meaning but used in gaming ie. a less professional usage, with this I tried to convey my contempt of the worse but trendy solution, this speech technique is called sarcasm in communication) Rudders are huge, have a movement range of almost half a meter, sidesticks hide in the palm of your hand and have a full range of movement of a couple of centimeters. Using rudders there's a clear visual feedback, the other pilot inherently and unwittingly observes the pilot-in-control's actions, with sidestick even the craziest false movements can escape the other pilot's attention. ...as it happened with Air France AF447. When the autopilot turned off the first officer took controls and for some unknown crazy reason kept the sidestick for almost all the time till the crash in the very end-position to climb. With rudders pulled to the false direction (and even more to the extreme) this craziness would have been visual at the very first second, (with a rudder it would have been a not a soft touch with the fingers but a heavy move like a monkey grabs a banana), the other pilot would realize this immediately and took over the control (all they had to do was to keep the controls in neutral to survive and save 3xx people) During the stalling descend the other Air France pilot tried to correct by pushing the stick forward several times, but with the other sidestick in the extreme climb position the airplane averaged it to have no effect, he did not even thought the other pilot doing the opposite, so the override button was never pressed. Imagine this scene with sidesticks pulled in opposite direction: nothing conspicuous to the eye, and imagine this now with rudders one of the pilots pushing it to extreme forward and the other pilot pulling it backwards to the end position, A striking sight, isn't it? it would immediately result a smack in the head from the captain.

@@nick066hu Rudder? Are you talking about...the yoke? Both Airbus and Boeing planes have conventional rudder controls located near the pilots' feet.
@tarcisofilho48782 жыл бұрын
@@nick066hu Sir, what do you think is a rudder? I understand your arguments, and even agree to an extent, but I'm sure you're talking about the yoke, not a rudder.
@nobstompah48502 жыл бұрын
@@nick066hu I don't think even grounding 447 would have saved that flight. Blaming equipment for the error of men is like blaming rockets for Apollo 1, when clearly it was a rushed job that doomed them. Sidesticks have so much ease of use compared to yokes the only thing keeping the latter in service is familiarity/preexisting design choices.
