Funny mentioning the open cockpit doors. I remember when most non-US airlines allowed that. I remember flying an Air New Zealand from HNL-AKL and being in the cockpit crossing the equator. On a BA 757 from Barcelona to LHR the captain walked through the cabin and picked the prettiest woman on board and invited her to join them in the cockpit. Lol.

Fantastic discussion. Based on both of your interview dates, we are close to the same age. Difference is that I went the Air Force route. Looking forward to learning in future podcasts as I enter the industry following my upcoming retirement after 24 years and starting the new chapter.

Just discovered this channel and all of your content is fantastic! My grandfather was a WW2 B-24 Captain who went on to work at the airlines, eventually flying the 707. When I was a kid he used to take me up in a 172, priceless memories. He's been gone for almost 25 years but I've started to take lessons to get my PPL after many years pondering and it is a dream come true to carry on his legacy. I know an OG like him would love to fly the modern planes of today. Thank you again for all the insight!

Fantastic interview and nice job with the Channel. Kieran your journey into the aviation world was inspiring. I was born in San Francisco but moved to Ireland for school and college. Recently moved back to San Fran and I've worked in my dads construction business for the last few years but I'm finally trying to pursue this career. I have a Bachelor of engineering in aviation technology from a college in Ireland. I noticed in another comment you mentioned you're based in SFO, I would love to to get some insight from you if you ever have some free time. I live in Mill Valley, Noth Bay SF. Cheers and safe flying. Conor

Great interview. Love the 787. Wonder what variant the dash 9 or 10. That 26 feet of wing flex is what Boeing did during flex testing for development of the 787. During the test the wings flexed at 26 feet and didn't even snap. Carbon fibre wing. During actual flight the wing flexes about 13 feet. Also nicknamed the Plastic Fantastic.

Thank you for sharing this great first interview and hosting it as well. I am from United Airlines as well but from the Cabin Crew side being a former Purser Flight Attendant based herr in Chicago. Yes, I heard his Pacific flying out of San Francisco. From me, we had those long-haul Hong Kong flights in the he retired 747-400s were. I started training in the cabin side back in February 1999 and then in tax season on April of 1999. My international graduation trip was Paris. France and then after getting first wings my first international trip a week later was Paris. France again! Well, it was also very nice nice hearing this First Officer living in Europe in his early years with his family. That was and still is a great learning experience for us Americans to live abroad. Furthermore, I take it he loves the 787s and they are beautiful to see. My love for me after flying on the gorgeous DC-10s, 727-200s and the retired beautiful 747-400s was and still is the 777s.😊 Well, again, thank you for having this first interview from the Pilot's side of our industry.😊 You have brought back some great memories for me in our industry from the Cabin Crew side.😊

Finally, back then I went into the Purser Leadership classes a few months before that worst situation of 9/11. Also, I have left the airline as well. So, yes, I am a former Purser Flight Attendant. The industry gave me some great memories of traveling the world and it has been nice for me.😊
