Probably some of the most thrilling moments of my life were back in the 1960s when I rode the bombardier's seat on several WB-50 flights in Japan. The WB-50 was basically the same aircraft as the B-29 with more powerful engines and a modified tail section. Quite a view from that seat in the nose.

Awesome, they appear in a lot of the atomic bomb test films. I thought they were very sexy looking birds.

Watching you folks fly over the exact same terrain and coastline I used to fly over in the late 70's (when I was a young pilot) just brought tears to my eyes. And the "systems management" of this aircraft is just freakin' awesome. I can't even imagine what it's like to sit in the Bombardier seat, let alone the Flight Engineer's seat! I repeat: Just freakin' AWESOME!! Thank you SO MUCH for this video.

I’m a lucky man and live in Wichita. I get to see the latest restoration of a B29 Doc. It’s a rare treat to hear Doc lumbering away under the power of those massive radials. The heavy sound of those engines tells you Doc is up without even see him. I’ll dash out into the open to watch as Doc flies over on those rare few times. 🇺🇸

thank you so much for this video. my Grandfather's crew tested and flew countless missions on the B-29. Seeing this video made my eyes water and miss him and my Grandmother along with all the story's he passed down to me. It's a shame that younger generations do not know the history and how important the sacrifices of those brave men who flew on those runs and the women who were hear building bombs like my Grandmother or the rosie riveter's who built those planes. One of my favorite story's and i could be wrong but as far as i know his crew were the only ones to land a fully loaded B-29 somehow the emergency life raft got loose and got caught up on the tail shortly after take off they turned her around and made an emergency landing and the old ship held up but the funnest part was every one on that base came out to watch them stack that ship up all over the runway. He told me the first bounce or impact they had on touchdown caused a 500 lb bomb to get loose and started rolling towards the hanger and there audience to scatter like roaches of couse the arming pin was still in it but i bet that was quite a site. Even in that situation they managed to get a good chuckle out of that. every one walked away and was fine but i bet that was some ride he and his crew went on to walk away from 3 low altitude crashes. I remember when ho told me about the last B-29 was restored and maintained by the Confederate Air Force sometime in the eighties I asked him wouldn't it be neat to revisit that ship? He said "Hell no I walked off that son of a bitch 40 years ago i'm not getting back on it" my mom told me he figured he had been lucky enough to make it threw the war he did not want to push his luck. I hope one day that i can go for a flight on that ship it would be worth every penny to be that close to my Grandfather and be able to pass that story down to my children along with all of his story's, Thanks again for the wonderful video and the chance to share this little piece of history.

Well. Thanks to your grandfather, his crew and all the other pilots Europe is free. What would've happen if Nazi-Germany took over the whole world? I don't wanna think of that. Those kids these days don't know how hard it must've been to fight for freedom. No. They only have their 'consoles' and play games which they kill each other in.

Most of the time, these were crewed by "kids" during WW-2. It was rare to find anyone older than 25! Even Paul Tibbetts was in his 20's when he and his crew dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.

The man said after the flight, this was super. But yes it was super. That's why they call the B-29 the superfortress. I got to be close to one in Texas back in 1966 when I was stationed in Texas in the Air Force. Back than I called it Super. I've been following the WWII Warbirds just about my whole life and also worked on them. It's been a good ride.

This was just amazing, I would love to see this Aircraft. My Father was in the Air Force and he loved the old Bombers. in Fact as a Fathers day gift one year I purchased a 1/48 scale model of this type aircraft for him. He kept telling me he was going to build it when he had the time. however he passed from a stroke a couple years ago. and I just took the model out of storage and decided to build it as a reminder of my father. And this video is helping to answer question on colors of the interior. Wish Fi Fi would attend one of the airshows at my local airport one day. I live in ohio and my local airport here in Akron/Canton has an airshow every year in late summer. would be amazing to see this plane there. as well as flying over the city.

Pretty Smooth Run up and climb out. They don't build them like that anymore. Amazing Aircraft. we may be one of the last people to see one fly. Seems like the aircraft needed a lot of control input. A lot of Yoke movement by the right seat. It must have been a workout for those who had to fly them to cruise altitude and then set the auto-pilot. Landing was bumpier than I expected. It looked to me he was dealing with some type of cross wind. Who Cares! Well Done!
