This is a portrait of a beautiful young boy, a large Soft Pastel painting portrait on process made by Graciela Bombalova, Bogra Art studio, 2021.
The size of this pastel painting is 22x33 inches and it was made entirely with the new brandt MAMUT handmade soft pastels...
From some time now I have been colaborating and advising on their creation and I´m very happy and proud because of their quallity! This soft pastels are smooth, creamy, easy going...it is a pleasure to work with them!
I ´ll be posting more info in my personal blog about MAMUT handmade soft pastels soon, where, you can also find my posts related to soft pastel technique, materials, etc.

Despite no commentary I find this one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen on pastel portrait techniques. Especially as it is on unsanded paper. Thank you, I’ve learned a lot and will put it into practice. ❤

I always wondered what was that white box/ fan behind the easel. I see it's no longer there. Was that an air filtration system or purifier to deal with the pastel dust?

Hello! I am amazed. I've been dabbling with pastel and after watching you work I'm obsessed with learning more! One thing I have trouble with is finding a good fixative. Do you mind telling me what you do to seal your work? Thank you for the inspiration! I see that someone else has asked. I ordered some Latour fixative. I hope that will work. Always I spray my work with about 3 coats, but I can still rub the chalk off. Maybe more coats!

Here in Argentina, because of the govrnmnt importing policies (imported art supplies are in us$, and they cost a lot more), we use hair spray. Take the cheaper ones, with harder fixation, the ones that leave the hair harder. Maybe you have better options where you live, but here we save a lot of money in that way, and it gave us a good result with graphite/charcoal/softpastels. Cheers and good luck with the sprays! (dont forget to make some tests before! So you dont mess some good paint!)

@@arielceleda4897 Hello Ariel, Hair spray can be used, but in the long therm, it darkest the colors and damage the painting...If you want to really protect your work I recommend you to use a special fixative for Pastel. Regards, Bogra

Hello Amy, I have used several brands for fixative, and they all are different with diverse results. I actually use Schmincke Fixative for Pastel (Not easy to find) and only a single coat at the end of the work...It works for me. But there are other brands that maybe could work for you.
