It's true actors really don't get much of a say in what they're portraying, or how they're portraying it. Yet, when a character is made to say something dumb or behave in a freaky way, we tend to blame the actors. Kind of sad, honestly.

I like how after he talks about the lighting being shitty they knock over the lamp and suddenly the lighting changes and looks more interesting and dramatic instead of being dark and gloomy.

The only reason Flip's show got green-lit in the first place was because it had the same name as Princess Carolyn's deceased son. In the moment this was framed as a charming coincidence. In the end, we see why approving scripts based on that kind of thing is a bad idea.

I know he's creepy but I kinda like that this is a producer/director type not playing into Bojacks crap, for years he's ruined good directors and producers that trusted him and had bad one's kiss his ass so he had all the power. Bojack has had too many chances and screwed too many people over, he's not used to not being the one with power in a situation.

I like how Bojack saw Flip as this weak anxious weirdo that he thought he could easily overpower like the rest of his directors, completely overseeing how passionated and obssesed Flip was for his show, Flip was just as Bojack, full of himself and wanted his own vision come through at all costs, even if the show looked like shit and even if he had to completely step over everyone in the production, he wouldnt care, i think he was never on it for the money he just truly believed in his vision and saw it as art, which is why the show ends up so pretentious and stupid looking with nobody to reign over him

I love this scene. There’s so much to unpack. I mean, this debate-filled comment section alone speaks for its self. The working conditions of actors, BoJack’s ego and the complex nature of having someone who truly has power over him also be an abusive man, just a lot of stuff to go over

+Carla Petcu well yeah, actors and actresses have hinted at this kind of thing happening. Sexual abuse and psychological abuse. (But of course there is also some dark humour to this scene. Like another comment said, Bojack's egocentrism lead to this). Also notice how Bojack's co-star Gina and the producer/his manager Princess Carolyn were complicit so that they could hold on to their own jobs. They play the game.

@@irregulargamer1352 Yeaaaaahh, but no. You're almost 100% right. The only wrong thing is, there's this word called consent. See, most people think when you sign a contract, you must do whatever the contract says or litigation ensues. However (and this is gonna be a logical extreme to make the point) if a contract said "I get to kill you and keep all of your stuff afterwards," that would not fly. You may say "Well you should've read the terms and conditions before signing it!" Sure, you should always read anything you're signing, but when it's an illegal act, you don't have to do it. You'd never have to die, or shit your pants, or get naked. Those things require that aforementioned magical little word, consent. Legally, you never have to be naked unless you want to be naked. People's bodies have rights in the court of law.

He seemed like a bit of a shut-in, egocentric, overly serious at the end of season 4. This scene surprised me but it didn't seem out of character from what we'd seen of him previously. Definitely a bit creepy.

okay I know we're not supposed to really feel bad for Bojack but man, when Flip tried to rip off his robe made me super uncomfortable. I know he wasn't trying to do anything sexual to him but it gave me a lot of Bad Touch vibes. Bojack's uncomfortable with being naked, this guy is forcing him to be naked. I didn't really like Flip already but this made me start to hate him.

This is exactly why intimacy coordinators need to be a standard in film production and why the actors strike going on is so important as it's making it a standard of practice. If there was an intimacy coordinator, Gina wouldn't have to be made uncomfortable with the male gaze of her undressing, it being brought up as an issue to the director. And if Gina had stated no issue with the nudity to the intimacy coordinator, it would've been made that Bojack's nudity wouldn't be allowed without his express consent (and they also could've had it so there could've been a work around with the nudity, say a camera trick)

This whole part of the story was so uncomfortable to watch. Sexual harassment and abuse of power... Forcing BoJack to get naked on camera despite him being extremely uncomfortable with it, just nasty... Yeah yeah you can say that BoJack kind of did similar things to some people in his life (abusing his power in sexual contexts...), but that doesn't make this any less gross and reprehensible.

Even though I didn't like him, Flip was a really interesting character. Hes a guy who had a weird edgy idea for a show that had no real merit, but somehow got lucky and got it produced. He's clearly in way over his head, and hes not a very good writer, but hes still doing everything he can to make his dream show a reality. I can only imagine how hard it must be to write AND direct a show on this tight a schedule with no plan and no experience. And yet somehow he manages to pull it off, at least for season 1 the show actually got pretty good reviews. He may be a weirdo, a creep, and a talentless hack at writing and directing, but he honestly did a pretty good job all things considered.

Bojack should have called that creep's bluff to sue, and lawyered up himself. I'd be very interested in hearing how Flip and his lawyers argue that it was perfectly okay to attempt to disrobe an actor by force because he wouldn't comply with filming a scene he expressed discomfort for doing, and also complained about the working conditions for other cast members.
