I grew up in California and had a lot of friends who were Catholic. But I don't remember any of them wearing ashes. But when we moved back out there to take care of my Dad, a lot of students that walked with my son wore them.

Hi Peter, thank you for your message. My name is Sandie Divan. Since I've been in the hospital and have missed your last 5 podcasts. I've always felt blessed by your messages. I didn't understand what Lent was about and I've found that when I observe Lent, it helps me reconnect with the Lord. I've given up social media unless I have to do things for my church. I maintain our Facebook page. When I give up social media for Lent, it has been such a huge blessing. I would spend so much time on the computer and way to much time on Facebook. When I give up social media, I focus on my relationship with Christ. I study the Bible more and during this Lent. I'm doing this study. Precept Upon Precept Inductive Studies... It's called - Don't Despair. There's Hope. You Have a Kinsman Redeemer! When I spend so much time on Facebook, I'm wasting time instead of spending time studying the Word of God.

Hi Peter , Thanks , for me and my late family , Lent was like the beginning of Spring and of course a very Holy time for many . Growing up Protestant , like you we never did the ash thing ( sorry no offense , please ) . It was like this glorious religious where we see the celebration of Jesus`s teaching and his sad passing and glorious resurrection . I remember the Sunday school teaching and of course the sunrise service on Easter , did you and Mary ever have a chance to visit the Cathedral In The Pines , up here in Rindge NH , it is an actual church out side , they had the pews and the alter , it was really worth waking up early for , as a child we would travel about an hour just to get there. Then mom would want to go to our local church for moving Easter service. Happier times , memories of a calmer life. Sorry for the long comment , take care , Gary 

Hi Peter, I use to be a catholic, and I know that the catholic religion is who practices lent. I became a born again Christian 5 yrs ago, I thought lent was a form of sacrifice, I thought that by the death of Jesus Christ we don’t need to sacrifice, because he died on the cross for us. Please help me understand.
