@joedorben35043 жыл бұрын
It takes more than one or two artist to define a region's sound. The East Coast/NYC sound came from the fact that that boom bap shit was extremely characteristic of NYC artists, regardless of what borough or area. Same thing with the West Coast sound (although it was basically just Cali), lots of G Funk-using artists all throughout a relatively large area in the West Coast, and that coupled with certain characteristic lyrical themes combined to make a lot of what is now known as "Gangsta rap". And the South also largely developed their own definitive sounds: horrorcore, phonk, trap music, etc. But the midwest never really had a characteristic sound. It would consistently breed many very unique artists whose sound were never all that similar unless they worked with one another a lot. In Detroit in particular, Slum Village, Dilla, and their frequent collaborators (Phat Kat, Elzhi, etc) could be said to have had a similar sound, but that wasnt usually kept consistent when these artists werent working together. That rings especially true in the case of Eminem, he didnt adopt a sound or style that originated from this area at all, in fact on his first album he straight up bites Nas and AZ, and on subsequent albums they were all pretty generically and shittily produced (for the most part, even his best produced albums with the biggest names arent even that outstanding production wise), such that you couldnt really attribute his "sound" to any one area, though I guess some of MMLP would technically kind of qualify as West Coast hip hop. And nowadays, you can't say anything about Detroit's sound. Along with the sound of Dilla, there's Black Milk, who's a bit of a stylistic chameleon at times, Danny Brown, Royce Da 5'9, Marv Won, Proof Deshaun (RIP) , Guilty Simpson, the rest of D-12, etc, there's not much of anything consistent about the way Detroit hip hop sounds at all anymore, even less so than there used to be
@joedorben35043 жыл бұрын

"Let's re-up half of brick and bring it back to the kitchen ... 6 Os get stashed in ceiling. 6 Os, in traffic. I'm pinching, this O. And that one, get split and broke in half. And this, his O. And that one, is his. And this O, I'm baggin. And this one, this O the last nigga" Don Cannon shouted everybody name, except his. It took me almost a year until I got to find his name. But when I did. *I think Boldy James and Helios Hussain would make the best Detroit hood track*
