So good to have some content on the Bolex H16 here! I’ve been researching a lot about this camera. I plan on getting a EL since it seems it’s simpler to maneuver.

Such a good lookin’ machine .. a Swiss watch 4 film. I just got a B8 .. maybe I shoulda waited 4 a 16 .. classy & solid. Upd8; wouldn’t read about it, my late Pop’s Bolex returned 2 me from cousin .. musta lent it 2 Uncle decades ago .. turns out it’s an H8 Reflex!! Would’ve been back in the early-mid 60s & don’t remember it. He hadda TLR which he “chopped our heads off” taking holiday family snaps .. Mom’d scold him big time .. us kids thought it was hilarious! Anyway I put the H8 REX in 4 a CLA .. hunting down bits-n-bobs 4 it .. cosmetically very similar to the 16 .. gotta b careful interchanging 16 & 8 lenses .. there’s a thing with the screw mount .. SOM Berthiots work tho’

One day a Reflex model H16 will show on eBay that isn’t $1000+ but until then I’ll stick with my 1957 non reflex model…

what will the footage look like if you have the Timed shutter on while shooting?

Hello, does the lens is a Computar f:1,2 ? if yes, is it a good lens for experimental filmaking ?

Is Scottsdale the home of the basement films archive. I thought that would also be helpful for students having a reference for viewing history .

Hey! My friend and I are shooting a video with a Bolex camera, and we're looking for an answer to one specific question: We finished shooting today and we haven't exhausted the winding (the tension spring is under tension). Our next shoot is next week and we don't want to waste a second of the video. Will this tensed spring damage the camera or should we exhaust the winding?
@darkcustomxxx72522 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think a week will worry any part of the mechanism, Bolex's are robust, the main concern is storing the camera for an extended amount of time with tension on the spring, like 6 months or more.. Always relax the spring in that situation. I hope your shoot was fun.

A nice video showing an H16 c.1963 when the flat base was introduced (to take the Bolex Matte Box). The shots are nicely lit and focused. One disappointment is that the charming presenter is indistinct in what she says. She tends to mumble and run words together without careful enunciation of consonants. I missed some of what she said. I might have hoped the production team would have warned her about this as it is a good instruction film.

It’s a nice camera, I already got a H16 I shot some film on it and it works great! But. I hope to get a REX one from the 60s so I can have the fader feature, and can see exactly what I’m shooting instead of setting the lens in a separate viewfinder and winging it as I do with my H16 Supreme model.
@derekheeps80122 жыл бұрын
That camera is at least an H16 REX-5 , with the flat base and the shoe to accept the 400ft mags , so at the earliest , it dates from 1967 , not the 1950's . I have a REX-4
@oldradiosnphonographs2 жыл бұрын
I’m planning to buy a REX 3 or higher that’s going to take me a few months to save for. If I want to get a REX model I better get a good one.
