Selling Rolex for a profit is a relatively new phenomenon, for most of their history it wasn't possible and even some of the most valuable models like Daytona could be had on the second hand market for considerably less than retail . You may well be correct but It's hard to make predictions as most of Rolex history they weren't luxury watches at all.

Yeah, I’m patiently waiting for my AD to call. Spoke with them recently and they told me the wait is almost over as they are starting to get more inventory from Rolex. It makes no sense whatsoever to pay over retail for a modern Rolex that is in production. It exacerbates the problem. If flippers know they can make a quick buck off a crayon eater they will. Having patience is the key to minimizing the risks that comes with buying from grey market dealers.

Who cares a flip about a flippin’ flipper. They cost collectors lots of money by driving up prices. I am not sure why Brendan is warning the flippin’ flippers instead of them losing money on Rolex.

In the US it is different. Tudor is still doing waitlist for 58s, 54s and Chronos. I think most folks will wait for those watches as they are tired of playing the Rolex game. It also depends on the locale of AD in the US. Some may not have waiting lists but all the major big cities do.

I still think Tudor make nice watches, have the new metas 41 Burgundy its great. Perfect proportions and excellent bracelet with t fit. Also picked up the new 39mm blue dial on jubilee. Tudora are more refined now than couple years back. Pelagos, black bays. For swiss watches under 4k a new not many brands to choose from at least brands with some social prestige.

Basically getting back to how it was in like 2017/18 when you could walk in and buy a sub or Datejust. I'm waiting for a 40mm Explorer II, seeing sub 6k usd. Basica just walked into an AD struck up a conversation and chatted about watches. I’ve never bought a watch in that store before and he went out of his way to get me the 126900 Air Kink as per website price not a cent more. I intend to keep it. So happy. I know there’s a lot of people who think it’s an awkward looking thing. But this watch has received quite an upgrades from the 116900 and it is now in my opinion a true Rolex steel sports tool watch.

Spot on video. Buy watches you like and expect to keep. You will most likely lose some money on reselling, like most things in life. With that in mind, buying watches you don't want from ads is a very expensive hobby towards a grail watch. Finally, if buying a new watch, ask for discount. If they say no, leave details, ask them to call if that changes. Buyers market. Go into any watch buying app. More Rolex than any other brand, with lots of examples of Daytonas for instance. That's only gonna add pressure to downward price trend, aside from high interest rates, cost of living crisis etc.

My local Fraser Hart has literally every Tudor model in the window. I’ve also spoke with a mate of mine who works in Goldsmiths. He told me Omega are selling literally nothing!

Been waiting a year and a half for "The Call' it's a good job I'm not desperate to own a watch. If you want a particular model and can't get it from an AD, then I don't have an issue buying from a dealer. Life's too short.

The big rumour that I have heard (at least from an un-named source here in Australia) is that Omega are about to go completely boutique only, which will mean no discounts amd no more offloading of stock to Jomashop etc. The AD that I have purchased three Omegas from in the last five years, at heavy discounts, is going to lose the brand. No doubt there are some smarter brains working in Switzerland than most of us here. But if they wont discount then its going to be pretty tough going in these next couple of years. Just as a side note, if a grey market dealer is now offering a flipper less than retail to take DateJusts off their hands, then shouldnt we be asking the AD for a discount on a DateJust if we are in the market it for one? (think about that for a few moments watch people)

So right on the Rolex prices, I too have been following the prices and grey market dealers are selling unworn OP's, DJ's and JC Deepsea's at RRP, so that tells me they bought them a few grand less off of flippers, or they just want to get what they paid for the watch. I think the prices will continue to fall in 2024, these watches are just not selling as Im getting new notifications on chrono24 of when the prices are being reduced and the watches are still for sale. What is that telling you?

It’s happening already. At least Rolex’s are really good and although they are expensive they are very refined and excellent. Omega are expensive and most of them are in a desperate need of a serious update or scraping. Tudor are fairly expensive and they are crap. The party is over in watches which is a good thing if you’re a watch enthusiast. It was always going to happen and you’re a bit naive if you believed it was going to continue the way it was. The retail prices are much too high now and most people are having to be more careful with their finances. It’s getting worse too and you’ve only got to try a watch on in any jewellers to see it. They are dead and they are desperate to make a sale and offer discounts.

Couldn't agree more. One, there is going to be a shock to the system in 2024 that will cause a lot of people to realize they are not as rich as they previously believed. I couldn't live without my watch collection, but I can damn sure live without having a Rolex IN that collection if I need to divert funds elsewhere. I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment. Just don't ask me to give up my Panerais. :p Two, Rolex has turned some folks off with the nonsense over the past few years. Those buyers have found out there are alternatives. Some will return, some will not. Even if 10% stay gone, that will have a material effect. Three, the combination of these first two factors will shake out all the speculators because what you stated in the video will become too evident to ignore. The lower demand and more supply will be enough to tip the delicate balance. AND, if Rolex manages to get production numbers up, as has been speculated, well then everything I said above x2. Will you be able to walk in and get 15% off a Pepsi, no. But just about anything short of that should become possible again. Even if I don't buy another Rolex, it should be nice to walk into an AD and not be treated like an irrelevant c&nt. Not all AD's but enough. It will be nice to see them sweat to try and win your business. I feel like payback is going to be a beeotch. More than a few people who were snubbed in the good years will exact their revenge. I'm confident enough to put my $$ where my mouth is. I sold my last Rolex a month ago while there was still a small premium to be had. I'm cool to wait a year or two to get it back for less than I sold it for.

Rolex are now like housing properties in big fancy cities. The prices may go down a little but the demand will be always high and the buyers will still be paying premium to get what they want. You will have a better a chance hitting a jackpot in Vegas than getting a call from your AD because they will never allow it to happen even if they well could. So pick one Rolex piece you want to actually own and wear, buy it from a reputable grey market store, and find out how you truly feel about the experience. If you’re worried about the resell value, do not buy any watches at all.

If grey dealers are offering to buy at less than retail then so should we. I forsee some steep discounts across the board on most models coming when things get bad enough for the ad's. So basically we go back to 2015 model of sales. Nothing changes other than the 2.5yr blip we had during the pandemic
