Appreciate the video sir. I received a barn find Arisaka with a frozen bolt. I am in the process of repairing the rifle and your videos on this rifle were the best on KZfaq.

No, but the rifle could be a fabulous study in the benefits of cosmolene. It was just stored outside in a shed for thirty plus years. No real damage, amazingly. No mum either, so a perfect project rifle. Your video helped a ton with my safety mechanism questions.

@@arl0xen551 That's a shame about the lack of a chrysanthemum but that is the added benefit of being able to toy around with the rifle more and not worry about damaging it. Is yours a carbine as well? My carbine's wooden stock is not original to the rifle, it is an original stock but it was refurbished improperly which is why it has that really neat color.... If your stock is original finish and it fits my rifle I would be interested in trading it out, or paying you for it and giving you mine.

@@arl0xen551 Make sure you take it to a gunsmith before you attempt to fire it even after you get it working properly. Remember that a lot of them were sabotaged by the labourer and rigged to explode in the shooter's face after one or multiple shots with weakened metal.

Dayne's World mine looks to be a 1935-38 rifle built at the Tokyo arsenal. Im assuming that insured a quality product when built originally. Great tip though. I will have it checked out. The frozen bolt preserved the bolt-face, chamber and firing pin. They look great. If my rifle repair goes south, I will send you the stock.

Thank you!! I believe it's technically a chrysanthemum, if you wanna get real nerdy.... So funny thing is, I bought this for dirt cheap because it was originally very dirty and the seller thought the flower was scored/ruined. How happy I was when I cleaned it to this condition and saw an intact flower. 😎

I’ve got a type 38 with the bolt stuck half way into battery but can go straight up though not back at all.thinking some gunk is in the way. Thank you this was helpful.

Glad it was helpful! Just as a precaution, I'd recommend going to a gunsmith to have it checked for safety prior to firing it. I know the Japanese would purposely booby trap some firearms and even if it appears perfect, better to be safe than to have a receiver explode in your face.

@DayneExplores

That's interesting. Without seeing it, no clue. I'm sorry man. I'd suggest taking it to a gunsmith at that point. The whole rifle as well because it could be "deactivated" in order to prevent it from firing due to a another safety issue.

I was given a Type 99 rifle. The bolt is in the rifle but the rear knurled safety knob is off. The bolt will not come out of the rifle. Is there any way to get the bolt to release and come out without disassembling everything? Thank you for any help.
@DayneExplores
@DayneExplores 4 жыл бұрын
Can you pull the bolt back (as if you were in the process of chambering a new round)? If so, try doing that while pulling the release lever out as shown in my video. If that doesn't pull the bolt out of the rifle, I would go to a gunsmith. In order to get the safety knob back on, you have to go through the proper disassembly and reassembly of the bolt carrier group

@@DayneExplores I took the rifle apart. I pulled the firing pin out, Then I lifted the bolt release and the bolt slid out. If anyone else has this issue I do not think you would have to take the rifle apart to solve this issue. I found out that the reason the bolt safety knob was off was due to it never being able to be put in the safety position when palmed in and up with the hand. I have tried and it will never stay in the safety position. Have you ever had this issue and if so what was the problem? Thank you for your help.

Hey, I have a type 44 (same exact setup); the safety knob came off while the bolt is still in the gun and the lever to remove the bolt is half-way engaged. I cannot get the bolt to move, or the safety to go back on the back of the bolt

Is there a round in the chamber? I would call a gunsmith regardless. If there's a round chambered, be extremely careful. That safety could very well also protect you from being injured by gasses or whatever else if you pulled the trigger on a live round. Good luck....hope you get it sorted safely

Is there a certain way the the spring is supposed to be put in the firing pin?
@DayneExplores

Not that I'm aware of. I put mine back the exact same way I pulled it out. It would be obvious (a widened end and a narrow end) if it was a one way spring (I think!).

@@CliKcz that sucks. If it was me, my number one concern would be "is there a potentially live round in the chamber?". Not really any way to know for sure. Even uncocked, there could be a round. So be careful. If I knew there was no live round, my next thought may be to loosen it up with lubricant sitting overnight so it seeps in. Maybe a little whack with a rubber mallet to the bolt handle....idk. but, best bet is to go see a gunsmith.
