You can find these little fasteners are many online knife shops. I found mine from usaknifemaker.com and they all them connectors. These can also be found at industrial fastener supply houses and some times they are called aluminum "stand-offs"

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. Great video ! Love that arm folding machine and also marking wood sides tip. When I was on woodworking always made that mistake, swap sides and drill the wrong holes. It's nice to see even pro knife makers do mark the wood as reference.

yes, my grandfather's generation did that sometimes (coveralls). But, he was born in 1900. What a world he lived in. thanks for the video!

My favorite fantasy atire would be to wear bibbed overalls all the time. Just love the comfort. Wear them in my shop and pretty much all weekend every weekend. I've even finally ventured out go the store wearing them. We can dream right. Great video as always. Thanks!

My grandfather only wore overalls. The ones with the shoulder straps and all the front pockets. Blue and white pinstripe with a blue long sleeve button up. Wore them every day from before the day I was born to the day he died. Had a pair or two he didn’t work in to wear when going out to a nice dinner or something.

Loved the video, beautiful work. Pro tip : Cabinet makers drill bit would do those holes without the messing about. They automatically centre on larger diameter holes. Most often used for hinges. They might call them something different over the pond.

BEAUTIFUL Knife Jeremy! The one thing that I was surprised to see that sets my OCD off is the engraving on the countersunk fasteners wasnt equally aligned on all three fasteners (looked like countersunk allen/hex head). Otherwise, that is a piece of art! Thanks for all the awesome videos from the cold barren Hoth-like Winnipeg!

For me it would be charthart bibs. Some many pockets. So comphy. Easy access for a scratch. If it gets to hot pop those waste buttons open. The perfect clothing

Hey Jeremy, you might want to try using a card scraper to remove the wax from those hardwood blanks. They are super cheap and can be gotten from Lee Valley or any other woodworking store. Works like a charm on both the long and end grain and they are super handy for getting a nice finish on highly figured woods that are otherwise prone to tear out.

Simple little life Jeromy,,,, Walks in to Walmart sporting coveralls the greater runs and hides thinking he's Mike Myers lol.. Great build as always. It seem you have been using natural handle material a bit more.. It's a favorite of mine . I like the look and feel of wood over man made products but I guess man made is important especially if the desire is for something resistance to water, blood and such. It's always nice to have detachable handles just for the previous reason.. Cheers, Martin

Love the knife and appreciate the reminder to mark which side is the "outside" of the scales; I've screwed up a few by not remembering to check beforehand. Any chance you could share where you get your parts for making bolt-on handles? I've looked and looked and can't find anything I'm really happy with but the ones you showed in your video look like what I'm looking for. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work and videos!

Hey man, I just got into knife making and I live in an apartment where they do not allow, torches or any type of fire except for barbeques, no charcoal though. Now I have made some pretty cool knives but I cannot heat treat them, I was wondering if you could let me know whether or not a propane household bbq would work for heat treat, thanks mate, the videos are great by the way!

If you can get the blade into the flame and a good even heat, propane will heat the steel past critical temperature. You need to try it on a scrap piece of steel and test it with a magnet to make sure

Coming from a woodworking background I almost got concerned when you decided to cut the handle scales with the grain orientation you chose. Wood is weakest the way you oriented it, BUT Cocobolo is a very strong wood so I think these handle scales will be just fine. There are a number of hardwood choices (and all softwood) that would be terrible to orient that way - especially in a bolt on scenario - they are likely to break along the grain lines with 3 bolts putting pressure along the same thin grain line. I like the look of the wood grain in either grain orientation, but it would look quite different if you would have rotated the block 90° at the bandsaw - but you got the look you were going for and it should be fine for Cocobolo.

With figuring out how deep to counter sink the holes in the scales why not measure the length of the nut, subtract the tang thickness from that, then divide by two?

Hey bud, hobbyist here. I notice you rub something that resembles wax on your belt after grinding... What the heck is that, and why?!?

Belts can stop performing because the abrasives get "loaded" or essentially clogged with material even though the abrasive itself is still perfectly fine. Very common for it to happen with dense oily woods like he's using here and/or on high grit belts. That stick helps remove that built up material from the belt thereby extending its useful life. Basically its sticky enough to grab all the wood dust but not hard enough to wear down the grit itself. You can find them on all the usual internet suppliers or sometimes even the big box stores.

@@pbasiaga7 huh, this seems counterproductive. am i wrong in thinking that it is wax? i understand that belts get clogged, but whatever that is, it at least LOOKS even softer than wood. wouldn't this clog your belt even worse? unless its more like an adhesive plastic... i need to do more research, can you give me some type of product name please?

It's a very soft rubber that it's made of. It's kind of jams into the abrasive, cleans out the little valleys and doesn't wear out the peaks. Look for abrasive belt cleaner from woodworking stores or amazon. They are so valuable to have!
