This game was /incredible/. I was sure Armored Core 6 would be my game of the year, but it's BRC for me now. I absolutely tore through this game. The story, the skating, the graffiti, and oh my god the music.

If you don't like the combat, a good way to make it not as bad is to use launchers on the cops to end it quickly. Attack into Jump into Spray takes them out right away, usually in groups, instead of spamming attacks at them until they go down. Attack into Jump when on foot also acts as a high jump to get to some areas a normal jump won't.

Yeah the combat can be pretty interesting if you keep that in mind for the regular cops and adopt more hit and run tactics while skating around. Still not it's strong suit but the combat is alright for what it is and still feels a little more satisfying and impactful to dance/trick fight the cops instead of just spraying them like in JSR(F). Other than the handful of mandatory fights you can avoid combat for the most part if you want, which is nice.

It's great to give Hideki Naganuma the shoutout he deserves, but he only did 3-ish tracks in the game, there's countless composers at playhere! =)

Just the OST endorsement makes me want to play the game, let alone that I enjoyed the skate sections of Spyro 2 and this looks like it'd scratch that itch.

The gameplay and ost mesh so well together, making every trick you do feel so much more cool. The OST also covers a large variety of music so it will always stay fresh, I definetly recommend giving the game a try.

I never played either of the Jet Set Radio games, but I listened to their OST for many years just because the music was great. I felt like I needed to give this one a shot just because of it, and yeah. This game is awesome. There are a lot of artists besides just Naganuma involved for the music, and it's all been great when just tearing around the city.

After playing: it’s just legit fun. Finding a “heaven spot” is just as rewarding to get to as it is to bomb. The soundtrack is definitely the best thing I’ve heard in the past 10 years. This is legit fun to play and the core gameplay loop surprises me by not getting old, despite me expecting it too. The movement feels less like tony hawk, and more like mirrors edge. It’s easy to pick up, but rewards mastery. If this was just another jet set radio clone, it’s the best jet set clone in existence. This should be on every switch owned by someone older than 12.

Unironically my favorite game to come out this August. There's certainly massive, sprawling titles filled to the brim with high-quality graphics and content, but there's something charming about BRC's simple and straightforward presentation (coupled with the best soundtrack of any game this year) that made it such an easy game to just pick up and play, that I actually went out of my way to 100% it's achievements. Worth every hour and dime and I hope Team Reptile is keeping an eye on the mod scene to see what cool stuff people have been coming up with for future content.

Nice review, and welcome to the Escapist team! I freakin' loved this game! I took my time and finished the story in 12 hours, and i'm certainly gonna go back and try and unlock more characters and 100% each borough. My only gripe was that it felt a bit dry presentation-wise, with some pretty static story cutscenes and a dissapointingly dull opening 5-10 minutes, but i guess that could have been a time / budget thing. Love everything else about it though! The ability to skate, BMX or rollerblade around adds variety, the maps are huge and intricate, the controls improve upon JSR and even JSRF, and the sound and visuals are outstanding. Well done Team Reptile!

you’d think that they would have called the city “neo-amsterdam” instead? as for the cyberpunk esthetic, it’s nice to see a sunshine version rather than an always rainy blade runner backdrop; it’s a nice touch. and lastly, this game isn’t simply “inspired” by JSR, it might have well be its spawn. still looks and sounds fun

Funny how this released around the same time as Sea of Stars, another indie game that wears its inspirations on its sleeve and also had music done by a composer from said games that inspired it. Of those 2 though, I'm more interested in this one.

One thing I love about old school skating/bmx games wasn’t the tricks but rather the lines you can make from combos. BRCF shines in that aspect and I hope Team Reptile’s next game makes this one feel like a tech demo cuz everything is already THERE

Yeah my thoughts exactly. It has great level design that allows you to do a single continuous combo throughout most of the levels. There's only two transitions in the game that don't allow you to do that I think. One is in Pyramid Island when getting to the middle section with all the sky rails and the other is the section in Mataan with the statue at the end of the river that spits you out at the elephant head part. I would love to see how they improve if they do a sequel to this.

Played the entire game as soon as it released for switch, and holy crap its so nostalgic to JSRF. So glad they pulled this off yet put their own spin on it. Will definitely go in my book of one of those timeless games

@@therodmons2 Correct, the reason why is that this game is meant to be an homage to JSRF. For further context, the creative team of Bomb Rush got consent from Sega to create the game and even got assistance from the developers and the lead music composer who created JSRF.

Finally picked this up and really stoked to check it out. Will be big nostalgia vibes as I was working at SEGA when Jet Set Radio Future dropped on Xbox, and tested the hell out of that one. It was so much fun to test too!

Not sure if this game is for me or not. I played a bit of Jet Set Radio Future a friend had, and I thought the grinding was kind of silly. The challenge in THPS is really what draws me in. The soundtrack might be enough to get me in though. Good review, welcome!

Six months later on the dot, and the modding community has figured out how to add entire new levels - mostly from JSR and Sonic. Dozens of players hang out in each level’s online multiplayer, having score battles and races, or just dancing to the ost. I’d say you nailed it :D

They copied off of so many locations in the JSRF game. But the funniest part is that the game looks graphically less impressive than Jet Set Radio Future that came out in 2002. Imagine that? Sounds like a Spiritual failure than sucessor to me.
