I'm no music expert but to me the original of this song is one of the best ever written! the space within the song and the timing that leaves you hanging on for the melodic release. no idea how they did it but truly awesome, creating such emotion. Credit to bon ever for bringing it to a wider audience and for seeing its brilliance as well.

Pretty awesome IMO, of course he isn't Mark Hollis but I think this does the original a huge amount of honor. Really tight instrumentation and I think the singer here is very much in the pocket with the song's original mood and atmospheric expression.

From the colour of spring, the spirit of Eden and Laughing stock,,,, these albums are my personal choice for personal critical listening and testing ANY audio Gear.....Very very hard to supersede the legendary original band.......1986,1988,1991....now were 2015!

Talk Talk started way before 1986. Why dismiss the earlier stuff? Everything has a foundation. If it wasn't for the commercial success of the previous albums, Hollis would never have been able to produce the later. Think about it.

valiant effort. Given the state of production Spirit of eden went through and his (mark's) exhausting creative emotional process at the time, trying to recreate a fraction of the mood live was impressive to watch. Good for them. This was a mammoth of a track to even consider covering.

as a Talk Talk very early listener, I find this version very good because as the song says it's a matter of spirit not of note played or voice sung. Spirit.

I'm sorry mates but Mark Hollis is unique, trying to imitate the timbre of his voice is impossible because it is really innate. In any case, this tribute version to Hollis's musical and interpretive genius is appreciated. Rest in peace dear Mark David Hollis, your legacy only grows with the years.

I absolutely love Talk Talk but to everyone who is criticising this attempt, remember this is a cover and if his voice sounded anything near to Mark Hollis that would be great ,but Mark was a one of kind a fantastic voice and song writer. This is meant to be a tribute to Talk Talk's music .I think it is a good attempt using the instruments that they have after all , Talk Talk's music is heavily mixed in a studio it would be hard even for Talk Talk to get anywhere near the original live.

Mark Hollis said he could never play the music on The Spirit of Eden live because it would destroy the purity and perfection of the original recording. Besides, playing their latter music in concert would be impossible (for they used an enormous array of instruments for the recording) and the result would probably be just a copy of the album music like you see here.

if there is a way to destroy a supurb song full of feeling and emotion this is it total sacralidge to ruine one of the best songs ever written, by one of the best bands of all time such a shame it came to an end but what a way to finish
@tikkyray6 жыл бұрын
there are two rules when you intend to cover a song: 1. play it at least as good as the original - failed, because that's simply impossible 2. if you can't play as good as the original song, play it better or at least in a different style - failed, to close to the original there should be a third rule: Don't cover any TALK TALK song ever, you can only fail
@maryluna386 жыл бұрын
Axel Vohn I totally agree! And this song is too hard to cover. And in the end I consider any attempt to cover TT music like a vandalic act.
@r00fecteau12 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the way to ruin a masterpiece. Bad signer with a bad voice (with absolutely no deepness). Bad beat rendering, bad sound. Please dont play that song if you are incapable to express the profound beauty of it.

too slow, kick drums are off, energy and nuance of the guitar replaced by looping 2 chords, vocals trying too hard sounds way too bland with no heart or edge, bass doesn't let low notes ride and instead blends them into the kick drum (which are off), keys are off and overbearing, solo section is an entirely different song.
