HG Grace Mayapriya and her husband were searchers. After reading Srila Prabhupada’s Gita in 1973, we moved to Cape Cod where he had grown up, to attend the Boston temple with his brother and investigate his movement. We joined in Boston with his brother, and moved to New Vrindavan soon after. She was a school teacher there and later in charge of supplies for the farm. We were accepted by Srila Prabhupada in the winter of 1974, but our initiation ceremony was on Gaura-Purnima of 1975.
Later, we moved to North Carolina to search for a farm for a group of devotees from Cleveland and although that did not come to fruition, in time we were contacted by Bir Krishna Goswami who wanted to start a temple in NC. He and my husband found the land outside Chapel Hill, we co-signed for it, and what was to become the New Goloka Community started then-from the first feast around a campfire to now, a large and diverse community. We were there for a decade and In 1993 we decided it was time to do something else for Srila Prabhupada so we moved to Charlottesville, Virginia to start a Bhakti Yoga Club at the University of Virginia and begin college preaching. This will be the 31st year of its existence and many initiated devotees have come from that program.
She is a book designer by trade and was the designer for the Bhaktivedanta Archives when they published books (like the lectures series, The Jaladuta, Prabhupada’s diary book, and others). She has been fortunate to design the books of Mukunda Maharaja, Giriraja Swami, many of the books by Indradyumna Swami, and Hridayananda Maharaja. A few years ago she started Bookwrights Press and have published 18 books by godbrothers and sisters, including A Bond of Love.
