A couple of hours foraging, a couple of hours soaking, an hour or two of shaping. An useful set of tools. But have you ever thought how many years, centuries, millennia even, it took mankind to discover and make these tools initially. I'm glad you're helping to keep these ideas current.

I use deer bone and antler for jewelry. White steer bone for weapon. Bison bone is a tough work. You do good, working in environment, with natural materials. You taught me three things. And don't inhale the dust, it will literally kill you.

I’ve just started working with bone. I’ve made buttons for my favorite flannel shirt. Making a set of dice so I can roll the bones.

Excellent video Dan! I just picked up some bone pieces I found last week and was planning to try making some needles. Glad I saw this as I had not thought of notching them as opposed to making an eye.

Haha! Did everyone hear the bullet like sound that bone made when he snapped it and a chunk went flying off?...maybe I’m easily amused, whatever.

I need to try some of this. Some Piece Of Shrimp poacher left a dear by my river. Just took the antlers and hide. At least it won't be total waste. Plus l'm shure some critters will have some good eating till it's buried in the snow.

Thanks. I learned something new, so it's a good day ;-) I like that this is on a level, where everybody can participate and especially that one can do so without tools.

I am currently working on a bone knife. I tried this in the past, almost just as a test with a small piece of bone. And i was shocked how well it took a edge, almost made a scalpel with just a few tries and some sandpaper. Im not sure if this is something correct or not, but could you not add some crushed up rocks and sand, with some water on the flat stone to help remove large amounts of material (say for example, that big fin on the bottom of the scapula?). I could be wrong there, could be thinking flint knapping techniques mixed into my bone working techniques lol. Great video none the less, love the idea with the needles, vary inventive. Also, quick question. Can you soak a bone and straighten it with some supports to make them more straight? Say, soak the bone till its flexable then clamp it off between 2 pieces of wood to let it dry? Just curious to your opinion on that.
