Finally , a snare tuning video !! Terry asked me to tune his custom 6.5 x14 Ludwig Black Galaxy drum ...aka... his "Acrophonic" or "Blackcrolite" snare which he recently put Imperial style lugs and changed the badge to a Monroe Keystone. So, after our live chat , we got into the drum tuning.
This is basically how I tune my snare. Hope it's of interest and helpful to some of you out there.

The sound u got out of Terry's blackrophonic (?) & the other is how I try to tune mine, but that tone is so nice. Just hope I'm getting closer to it myself. I recently been into interval tuning & working with a Tunebot. It does help I guess but I usually get a good sound without, pretty nteresting tho. Do u know how many hz's u tune that top head to? @@BONHAMOLOGY Wanton has a really great snare sound. My favourite though is Dancing Days. Houses of the Holy ( the track ) has similar tuning. Open tuning. Medium tension and so resonant. I prefer Bonzo's wider snare tunings. Over The Hills also has that fat openess about it. He did dampen his snare lots in the studio, especially on Zep 3.

In general and not all inclusive:::: Acrolite has the same Ludaloy shell as the Supraphonic. But the Acrolite had 8 lugs and the Supraphonic has 10 lugs. The Supraphonic is chrome plated over aluminum. The acrolite is usually painted. They almost sound the same. The Supraphonic is bighter with more harmonics and the acrolite is more muffled. Etc…
