As its citizens vote to incorporate, a new era is ushered in for Bonita Springs, Florida. This once tiny fishing village is now faced with preserving its past despite tremendous growth and shifting demographics. The story picks up in the 1960's as this small town struggles to rebuild after Hurricane Donna's fury, but it is the building of Interstate 75 that will have lasting effects.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

The restoration of 41, and saving of older homes made Bonita special. If the imperial river keeps flooding the town it will become a major disaster for the town in the long run. I also feel the town needs new blood the older residents have become stagnant and have drained the town of life. The city did everything right i think it’s the people who failed here. A place of memories for me, and yes a wide divide between the people. Its not hate, its just very different people. Its great Bonita isn’t part of Lee County specifically the police. The reason I would never buy those is the flooding and gossiping old folks retired but with no purpose.

Hispanics that come for agricultural work tend to be from rural parts of Mexico,Central America and others .The first generations does not speak English;so it is hard for them to speak to native English speakers and integrate, but by the second generation who has gone to school in the USA;they are fully integrated .

On this note the larger Bonita Springs community tends to be older, whites:many middle class and upper middle class .The Hispanics tend to be working class:blue collar .
