Bono And His Daughter Talk Family, Celebrity And Finally Finding Home
#U2 lead singer #Bono was just 14 years old when he lost his mother to a brain aneurysm. He found himself living in an all-male household on the north side of Dublin that lacked the warmth and closeness of a tight-knit family. It would be years before he finally understood what “home” truly felt like.

I haven't seen my dad for a few years. He wasn't abusive or anything but he was never really interested in being a dad once we arrived. I text him every Christmas and his birthday and he usually replies. Last Christmas he didn't answer me. Yesterday was his birthday, I messaged him happy birthday and he didn't answer. I know nothing has happened to him because he's in touch with his sisters so they'd have told us (we're not close but they have my mum's number) I don't remember my dad ever saying anything nice to me that came from his heart. This was so beautiful and heart breaking to hear.

Bono is so amazing. Who else can sing a solemn song about the horrors of heroin? Who else can sing so boldly of his faith in God? What about his vocals overflowing with sorrow about the Troubles? This man is the only one. Such a beautiful voice, and he certainly has a talent for songwriting. Plus, his morals and charity work are phenomenal. Haters can go elsewhere, for it is easy to hate what is good in the world.

That's sweet to see him being interviewed by his daughter-he's an interesting guy anyway. I saw him interviewed on the Charlie Rose a couple of years ago on PBS in a bar in Ireland, and he just talked the entire time about politics,his life, and other things--and it turned out to be one of the better hours I've spent watching on PBS---it was that good. He didn't perform any songs once, though. Grew up listening to U2,---first song I heard by them was In the Name of love---MTV played this video of them performing it live in an actual castle in Ireland back in '84. The other songs I always like by them were "Three Suns", "Can't Stop The Dance", and last but not least, "New Year's Day

It is easy to be cynical about U2 and Bono, but people tend to forget how hard they worked for their success. None of them are the best at what they do, but together they are a force. These guys left Dublin with about 15 tunes in 1980 and played clubs all over the world to audiences as small as 150 people. They built their own fan base one fan at a time and u have to respect that.

Here is a cool anecdote about Bono. When I was in college U2 was in town and my friend Raven, who was gorgeous was working at a bar when in walks Bono. They had a few laughs then he asks her to drive him around Indianapolis to see the city. I asked if he tried to sneak a kiss and she said he never even flirted and that he was a perfect gentleman.

Born in 68. Was a U2 fan from high school. Sister bought me tickets to Joshua Tree concert when I finished boot camp. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN opened at JFK . I'm 51 and a U2 fan....Bravo ,Bono Adam Larry and the Edge!

Coming from a bad up bringing my daughter saved my life. I had nothing to live for and this beautiful sweet baby girl gave me a reason to live. I have her heart beat on a tape too and she is 35 now. We are very close and I'm glad to share a similar experience. U2's songs back then also saved my life. The strength and power in those songs gave me so much joy😍 I thank U2 for that.

When your dad died and you did the concert some days after, I felt your love for him when you yell, and yelled. Could see and feel the love coming from your band mates as they watched you, they played their hearts out at that show. Two guitar 🎸, one drummer and a singer who writes beautiful music. Well said, I'm in agreement with you about this man, Bono, and I especially favor his morals and his devotion to God and that you can hear it in the lyrics of a lot of his songs. It's just my belief that when Bono stands before God and is asked what he has done for his fellow man that he will have a long list to present to his most holy Father in which Bono will find favor with God. Boy, I'd really love to be there and witness what happens, wouldn't anybody! For what I do know about Bono he is a very kind man and who treats people as he would like to be treated, a humble guy who aside from being the frontman of U2 doesn't really like the spotlight focused on him and the humanitarian work he consistently does in 3rd world countries year after year presenting himself to the world as a regular guy who is only looking to help make a difference for all the people who live in some of the world's worst places and conditions and where there's no sewer systems or running water, no fresh drinking water and where small children play amongst the daily garbage that piles up more every day with no solutions in place to offer those who live there some decency and better living conditions! At least Bono is a good guy who is trying to help those who need it, it's more than most others would try! For some of those hollyweird people who fly around the world trying to show themselves as being in touch with the poor and dressing themselves up to look glamorous walking around the villages in stilettos complaining that their $2500 shoes are going to be ruined while one of their managers is passing out candy bars to all the little children which are running around with big friendly smiles because they have never seen a person look the way they do! I'm certain that any kid is going to be grateful for the candy but nothing else is done to help those poor people that live there! So when you see the pictures of your favorite superstar amongst the village of the poor you've got to ask yourself what the superstar did before leaving the area or if they were simply there to say that they cared and have a variety of photos taken (they signed the ones given out to the poor villagers, of course)!! Anyway, I'd like someone to point out any ill-mannered, ugly, narcissistic behavior, greedy, bad habits or the like about Bono instead of just saying that he's not a good guy! Bono does what he does based on who he is naturally and it's my opinion that he is a regular, nice, normal person, unassuming and quiet, likes being in the background and not the fore ground, not an attention seeker, and with everything known about him is laid out there's nothing wrong with him, nothing at all!

I love Bono's humility. His talk about unrealized potential seems to me to be the heart of mankind's greatest issues. Both his daughters are beautiful women who will go far in this world. Also much credit goes to his wife Ally who keeps the temperature of their home.

I hate that everyone has such a massive downer on Bono. He's the best frontman in the world when he's doing his day job, and he's raised an awful lot of money for charity. Yes he's rich, but he deserves to be, he's written a lot of beautiful music. So many haters who probably haven't raised more than a tenner for charity in their lives and have achieved virtually zero, and made a difference to no one's life, and yet all they can do is tear strips off him for anything they can think of, from tax to sunglasses.

Met bono on a flight from Dublin to Edinburgh in the summer of 1981 shared a taxi ride from the airport to Edinburgh Waverley train station, if I remember correctly they were on there way to a music festival in Newcastle. Nice fellows they have not changed in my opinion humble guys with great stories to tell. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇮🇪🇺🇸🙏🏻❤️

Hello robbiehobbs2009 - You do have a father. He's our creator - our heavenly father - and he loves you. He sent his son, Yeshua / Jesus to reach us & teach us & be there for all who seek him out. I truly think that our heart & soul were made with a desire to seek higher than ourselves as if we aren't really from here. Most people feel they're missing something & have a desire for meaning & a higher connection. People might not know at first what it is exactly that they're missing, but millions of people recognize it when we see it in Jesus's life & his words. Jesus wants a personal relationship w/ each one of us. We just have to invite him into our life as our Lord & repent of sin. Then, read the New Testament & learn Jesus' teachings & his ways & Live them in our life. God bless you.

I discovered U2 in 1986 when I was 10. I was going through my parents' divorce and I just connected with the music. This has not changed in over 30 years of being a fan. I am so happy to have tumbled onto this interview, and it's beautiful. I have always thought how our circumstance that we are born into is luck... and I agree that how many people can't or won't be able to attain their potential, only because of their circumstance. I love that Bono is able to really articulate his feelings, express them. No, he isn't the best singer, but neither is Dylan and Cohen wasn't either. But they are all very good story tellers, and Bono has a way of sharing the yearnings, the dreams. And putting that the sounds of The Edge always gets me.. There is always a U2 song for any mood, any circumstance. The longevity, the humble commitment and drive of U2 is something to be admired.

I have always respected Bono right from the start of his career, he gets a hard press but the World is not so kind, he deserves a complete loving family life like the rest of us, I can totally get why his life away from music comes precious to him, it must get frustrating being mauled at every opportunity everytime he wants to just get out his front door.

Hey Bono each time I see you at a show, you lift my spirits 100 percent. Not a doctor in the world could do that! Don't ever sell yourself short - the effects you have on people's lives are lasting. Yes you've cost me a very small fortune, since I fell in love with U2 in 1985, but what I've received in return is priceless.

I LOVED this! Love, love, love it! I've been a huge U2 fan for so long, and this was such a treat. Jordan is so pretty and I love to see Bono so humble and kind, such a great person. The only thing that would make me happier is if U2 would come play Toronto again. :)
