Killed my first bonsai years ago, by now I've learned that my bonsais need to be in a their own tiny Greenhouse with special care taken to mind the humidity levels - otherwise it only takes one scorching +100°F Texas day to kill them! Thanks for all your hard work on these vids! Keep them coming! Cheers!

His display is also beautiful, even without post! I think when you have so many, it makes watering easier this way. Also you can see them from inside the house and be proud of your hard work.

Bonsai is such a complicated topic, you handled it well. First by getting a great expert like John to explain it and then by taking a step by step process without going off on tangents. I prefer Nigel Saunder's clip and grow technique of The Bonsai Zone even though the plants may take longer and are not quite as cultured as the traditional ones.

As someone who learned bonsai growing, shaping and design I really like this video but would love a more basic video of house plants with emphasis of repotting (when, how, what size of pot), picking the right medium and soil (how can we decide on our own), etc

The soil can vary a lot depending on where you are and your watering habits, and you don't need super expensive substrate like akadama

I live in the tropics that has very high humidity and temperature all year round and i water my microcarpa ficus (grafted ginseng style) every 3 days. My substrate is equal parts of coco peat/pumice/akadama/fir bark. These are bright light loving plants that are HUNGRY for fertilizer... at first i starved my tree for 2 months without additional fertilizer and it started to drop leaves at an alarming rate. Once i pit it on a 3:1:2 regime of liquid fertilizer it stopped dropping leaves almost instantly and is now growing new branches and leaves like a weed. Bonsai is super addictive!

I accidentally skipped the RHS advert then. I had a bonzai, i watered it, i loved it, i sat with it, sang to it and it died in my arms. I was invited to an allotment today. It was opened in the 1930s, not a pollytunnel, in sight. All glasshouses and the amount of flowers up there, incredible. I built a summer house it has taken me 4 months. I have power, i can charge my laptop. This place is incredible too especially our quadrant, feel the love of it.
