It’s so reassuring to know that even masters of bonsai occasionally struggle with deciding on design! Peter is often very quick with decision making and doesn’t hold back, but to see a thought out and debated design is helpful as a beginner to know these problems are faced by everyone from time to time! Like to see large-ish rafts, over rock, forest, mountain/hillside slopes, scorch from lightning, windswept, seaside beach, species for such projects. working with fruit trees and tropicals. Larger items could be 2 or 3 part series like selection and overall appraisal/plan ideas up on the bench, then the finish up touches and the process decisions made.

As I find the solution to a design problem there are many solutions. I am always aware, there is never one solution to the problem. What I am after is what I call the WOW! factor. It is the perfect solution to the problem. When it is present to the client and they understand the solution. That is what I after, it is the ultimate response WOW! That is what I call the WOW factor. I can see it in you, trying to find that WOW! factor, when you are developing the trees and visualizing how the tree will look when it becomes mature. I also put the design solution in the front desk to see it every day and think about it the final solution plus I get to see and evaluate people reactions as they see it and comment on it. 😊 That is what we all try to achieve as someone who like to problems solve. A lot off times we second guess ourselves. I do like the original position that you were thinking about and came back to in the end. And yes I would cut off all those branches on the bottom tier, both left side and back, just go with the top 1/2 of foilage. Steve.

I’ve been growing my Premna bonsai in an indoor green space. Very vigourous growth, but requires high temperatures (27°C) but because I get to have growth in the winter i’m having a lot more fun because my growing season is indefinite. Even have a maple leafing and it’s the middle of February. The Maple Will be returned to natural seasons this year. I chose to protect it because it experienced some trauma. It did get to go dormant, I just shortened it’s winter. I’m loving practicing this horticultural Art. And by the way, Peter, the weather you’re experiencing currently looks like the weather I would experience only in mid March (Canada cold). So thank you for adding temperature to the dates. It helps me figure out when other locations could start working on there trees.

I have a "Blue Spruce ~ tree/bush ~ got it at HD about 15 years ago. Mushroom shaped. I have trimmed it a little. Now about 12 feet tall. Maybe a little more. I guess I've decided that I am intimidated by it. I did "clean out" the interior about two months ago and it is noticeably different but I have not gotten out a ladder. The now eight inch trunk goes up to what is pretty obviously the out of control top. ~~~ Thinking of you as I gather courage. Thank you so much for your inspiration. ✨🌸🙏🌸✨. 🇺🇸

Also (just saying from here in New Hampshire) ~ "Biting the Bullet" in this country is derived from the great carnage of the civil war (in the USA) and the very deprived and primitive conditions for, well, Amputation. Ya know, with a saw, nasty and bloody business, not usually successful, but always, the patient would "Bite a Bullet" through the process. Whew!
