How to heal a tree hollow
Zouki Bonsai is of no value in the presence of tree hollows.
The beauty of bonsai is its beautiful trunk.
Only plum trees may have tree hollows.
樹洞が有る盆栽は評価が低くなります。

Personally, I really like to see deciduous trees with holes and hollows, like Walter Paul’s fairy tale trees. Looks perfectly natural to me

Bonsai is not good, but "Hachi-ue" is good for tree hollows. I'm making bonsai, not "Hachiue".

@@samyoel5384 I think that is the difference between Western bonsai and Japanese bonsai. We tend to want to make our trees look more like you would encounter them in nature, instead of wanting to see perfectly radiating nebari,, and branches in the exact right spots, like they do in Japan. Crossing branches may not be aesthetically pleasing, but frankly, I don't mind if roots cross here and there: you should see the majestic beech trees in the forests here, they have roots crossing everywhere. And while hollows in trunks can cause deciduous bonsai to rot away and die, there are ways to preserve the wood, for instance with resin.

In England we have many ancient trees that are hollow. It is a very natural thing and looks realistic in a deciduous bonsai. Thanks for the very informative video.

Hello Bonsai Shinshi Will the bottom part of the rootstock throw up shoots too when growing season starts? I once bought a Field Maple that had been in the ground, It had a sort of double rootstock, The top one was bulbous so made for inverse taper, I decided to cut the bottom part away so that the top part had a flare from the new base, I was going to toss the bottom rootstock in the trash but I thought i'd give it a go and and plant it, It sent new shoots up the following year!! 👍 Many thanks for these fabulous educational video's, Keep up the good work!! 🙂

Hi i just had the same problem 4 days ago .. had to dig deep inside the trunk to empty dead wood a finger size hollow .. i did not have bentonite just put some special resin for cicatrization .. why did you not make a Sabamiki hollow trunk on your little maple ? If mine will continue rotting probably will transform into sabamiki It is a Shideshojo maple that had bostrich at the roots base 25 years ago When i bought it , i gave Mashall to kill the insect and it worked but maybe the borer insect had dug too deep inside .. could it be that problems come out 25 years later ?

This is because it is easy to make and it is not possible to maintain a beautiful shape for many years. It is difficult to make a tree without a hollow. That's why bonsai has a beautiful trunk. Trees with caves are called potted plants(Hachiue), not bonsai.

Eventually the hollow will comprise the tree. 5-10 years prob not a thing. 30, 40 or 50 years, it’ll be a problem. That’s a considerable time investment to roll the dice if it’ll make it that long or not.

@@questionablecooking7019 trees like buergerianum, or olmus has a tenedencies to make beautiful hollow trunks... and masters like walter pall, and peter chan has amazing examples of hollow trunk maples...

@@thepoppunx This is true but in general, hollows = problems down the road to keep the tree healthy and strong long term. As with everything Bonsai, it's not a one size fits all though. Walter Pall level of husbandry versus the average enthusiast's level of husbandry ... consider what you are trying to compare here sir.

12:41 -Is that rooting hormone powder? Also, what is the compound used to fill the hollow called? I don't think I've seen that here in the US, yet. Hello, if I may, Ive used this material to bond wire to stone slabs. It’s an epoxy putty, sold in plumbing supply. I purchased it from Lowe’s hardware. It is a two part material. A dark inner core and light gray outer. The directions, I followed indicates completely squishing them together. Before using... it has a strong epoxy smell and hardens, to a rock like consistency, fairly quick. I’m not confident that I would use this in this manner, but certainly respect this artist... hope this helps you. 💮 good job on the entire process demonstrated here...👍👍👍

You've completely destroyed your tree with air layering: now it will more look like a bush. I also disagree with your statement that hollows make bonsai worthless: there are some awesome bonsai trees with hollows/uro. Way better quality than your miniature.

Não existe cosa pior de não deixar uma árvore crescer....este é um absurdo A natureza precisa fazer o seu caminho ... Que coisa orrivel ,já ficou debaixo de uma árvore ??? Sentiu a sua energia..??? Acho que não tem ném Idea... Para de torturar as Arvores !!!
