Dan talks candidly as we view several photographs of his pot creations.
He discusses a variety of topics from how he constructs different styles of coil pot, through to his thought processes and reasons whilst decorating and glazing them. He also covers which kinds of species are best suited to different bonsai pot/glaze styles and much more.
This open and honest video will appeal to bonsai enthusiasts of all levels, bonsai potters, potters and ceramicists in general and is delivered in an easy manner from a master of his craft!

Beautiful pots Dan! It would be amazing if you could show us some process of glazing, even if it is just a basic technique and glaze. I do realise you have experimented and worked hard for many years to get to where you are now, so I don't expect you to share everything! Much love and appreciation, cheers!

I didn't realize how relatively new to KZfaq you are.. you have a brilliantly simple approach but well designed when it comes to pottery. It would be interesting to see some of your pots with tree's in them if you haven't already made a few video's like that.. anyway keep the videos coming my man..

@@danbartonslifewithbonsai745 I personally love the Robin Jehan’s cotoneaster copse in an early primitive coiled pot.. my second favorite is the trident maples pot!! You have work has an amazing level of texture and Balance even in the "A" symmetrical primitive pot designs.. it's very easy to tell you are a man that has perfected his chosen craft to the highest level and its an honor to learn little bits of your store house of knowledge.. thanks again!!

Love you work and your trees. I am a bonsai artist also and have just started to make my owe pots. Thank you for the insight and ideas. i don't suppose you would share your Gunmetal Red glaze recipe and firing temperature? Either way keep up the videos. They are traffic!

Hi Mike - I've been making pots for bonsai for nearly 50 years and only very recently have I decided to share some of my ideas and techniques regarding the processes involved, and I hope to add to this - but, it may well be some time yet before I decide to share the recipe/technique for achieving the very special gun-metal red colour. But it may happen some day. Thanks for your enquiry. I fire all my stoneware pots to 1220C and soak for 25 minutes to let the glaze settle.

@@danbarton1019 Hello Dan; I fully understand. I can tell you have a lifetime of experience. Thank you for sharing what you have so far. I am still looking for a good glaze for my pots. I am also interested in the technique you call "Mud Painting". Perhaps a subject for an upcoming video? I have already made two dot tools and made two pots with dots. They are looking quite good so far. Thank you again. Looking forward to your next video.

Sorry Darlene - they've all been accounted for, but I do accept commissions for pots up to 12 " - anything larger becomes difficult to pack and ship safely and the shipping costs to the USA are huge
