In this episode of our Bonsai Repotting Guide, our local expert,Mr Ogawa, explain how to repot and create a harmonious small bonsai using two Camellia saplings.
Bonsai repotting is crucial for both beginners and experts in bonsai care. This process includes taking the tree out of its existing pot, cutting back the roots, and replanting it in new soil and a different pot. This practice prevents the tree from being root-bound, promoting fresh growth vital for its health and growth. The frequency of repotting varies, usually every few years, and depends on factors like the tree's age, size, and the soil and pot types used.

I found this video very interesting and informative, I have two camellias and I think I will do the same procedure as soon as they finish flowering. for the soil I know that kanuma is often used for camellias or azaleas, what do you think? I would like to know your opinion on this. Thank you so much for making this video, it was just what I needed!

Kanuma can used for Satsuki Azalea and other common Azalea bonsai, however it might lacks a little in water retention capacity needed for this type of tree.

A lot of information very well explained as always thank you very much although the music is a bit loud an repetitive and can become annoying. It could be better with only the ambient sounds of the tools, the pot and your explanations. More asmr thing, but that's just my opinion.

Shouldn't Camellias be planted in a more acidic soil, like Kanuma?

Thank you very muc for your message. If you can create an environment where Kanuma soil doesn't dry out too much, that would be ideal. However, using only Kanuma soil tends to dry out excessively. Given the nature of camellias, we recommend Akadama soil, as it retains moisture well while allowing you to supplement the soil nutrients with fertilizer.
