It's called cut paste. May or may not be necessary, but a lot of people use it on big cuts/chops.

松柏や傷の大きな雑木には固形のカットパスター。傷が小さい時は液体のカットパスター。傷が治りずらい樹種にはトップジンペーストが良いと思います。また、欅はよほど大きな傷でなければ習字の墨などを使用します。人によっては車の液体ガスケットを使うみたいですよ。
