Making bonsai doesn't have to be daunting and difficult. My hope is that in producing these videos you find the confidence to create your own bonsai out of, pretty much, any material you can find. In this video I create some interesting bonsai styles using raw material. Easy.

With your help, i was brave enough to pluck and wire up a small wild pine I took from the woods last year. I fed it some holly tone and she looks so happy. You can tell when a tree is happy. She grows new sprouts all over.

I have only just discovered your channel a short while ago and have been watching three or four of your videos a day to try and take it all in. You have rekindled my excitement for bonsai that I had as a youth after first seeing them on the “Karate Kid” movie. I feel as if you have become a dear friend over the past week, and I cannot wait to begin my journey into bonsai. I also enjoy your colorful shirts, I too have several that I like to wear. I hope to some day be able to make the trip to your nursery and meet you in person. Thank you, Jason

When you talk about the traditional shaping of bonsai and how sometimes people want to be “unique,” that’s what I will say when people look at my very amateur attempts with my bonsai plants 😊 Because I am 72, I know that I don’t have 20 or more years to wait for trunks to grow. Geraniums make quick bonsai.

Thank you for making such wonderful videos and encouraging me to think that bonsai doesn't have to be complicated to be enjoyed. I just started in bonsai and have pulled two pines and three maple trees from my woods. I am thinking to let them settle in over the winter and develop roots and see what happens in the spring. I am so excited.

Mr Chan, I've noticed in most of your videos that you rarely use pebbles/rocks as soil, and instead opt for the soil the plan is already growing in. I've seen other people remove all the soil they can until it's only the tree and roots. What's the difference between the two, and which is preferred?
