Bonsai from a Thyme plant?!

These Thyme plants are widely available in supermarkets and garden centers - but do they make nice Bonsai trees? In this video Oscar styles this cheap thyme (about 10 USD) into a little Bonsai tree. A lot is pruned of, but the tree is strong and healthy and will do just fine. It is a first step in its progression towards a bonsai - and we'll show the updates of this little tree on our KZfaq channel!

Ola! You have an international audience well done for an excellent tutorial. Is it possible to always state what season it is when you do a video? Months of the year don't help as we are potentially in different hemispheres

For the trunk to have developed so thick the thyme must have been growing for some time and yet it was still very short in height. What was the age of that thyme?

Beginner here: why remove the old soil completely and not just enough to fit into the new bonsai pot?

We prefer to use a bonsai substrate (inorganic) which is far better draining. Check out our videos about bonsai soil for more info!

Why are you putting it straight into a Bonsais pot? Im new to bonsai and I thought you put it much later in abonsai pot so It can grow much faster and stronger into the desired shape. But I think it already Looks really good
@bonsaiempire
@bonsaiempire 3 ай бұрын
If we'd want the branches to thicken we would indeed keep it in a larger pot. But this tree mostly needs refining so we decided to place it into a medium sized pot (perhaps the next pot will be shallower than this one).
