I've read books about these cars, ridden in a GT1, seen a few F1's at certain events and haven't yet had the chance to see the MB in person. But for as much as I've loved these cars, read every book and magazine article about these cars over the years and just obsessively adored them, I don't think I've enjoyed anything more than listening to these guys talk. I could sit here and listen to them bang on about all three cars all day long. Thank you Carfection and thank you DK Engineering.
@astronmr203 жыл бұрын
It's true-there's so little media or literature about them, which makes this feature very special.
@erichakanson70103 жыл бұрын
@@astronmr20 actually there's a very good book on the F1 by Gordon Murray, Doug Nye and Ron Dennis. There's a few good books on the GT1 but unfortunately those are quite pricey. I know you can find some older copies of "Excellence" featuring the GT1 as well. The books and magazines I read were mostly written when these cars were new. Though I'd love to see someone write modern versions of those books.

@erichakanson70103 жыл бұрын
@@natelasaede8296 well hold on to your copy of Driving Ambition. I see used copies on the internet for a few hundred bucks and I saw an unopened, unused copy at an boutique auction (Sotheby's maybe?) for $500. And the old copies of some of the bibles of Porsche history are really expensive. But all of those books are fascinating reads.

The F1 is just design perfection. The others look built to race. Wings, bulges and width detract from their beauty, for me. Of course, that's probably what attracts the fans of the other two. The F1 could be looked at endlessly whilst dreaming of the ultimate drive and still give so much back without turning it's wheels. I just love it. And, I would probably disagree with James' comment about how few people would even know what it is.

I was lucky enough to meet James in the early part of this century. I went to DK to photograph some cars he had for sale. I remember him giving me the keys for a Ferrari and saying, "It's just a car, drive it like you would any other.." I bottled out and asked him to drive them. A regret I can live with as It was still a beautiful experience. I was star-struck by the cars and out of my depth. Still a day I'll cherish for ever.
