I've seen many live versions of Bonham playing 1/16 notes on the hi hat when every other note is accented where the studio sounds like he's playing 1/8 notes on the hi hat. I just think Bonham has an easier time playing 1/16 notes to keep perfect time. When I learn these songs like Misty and Custard Pie I have more fun playing 1/16 notes on the hi hat

Cool! One of my favorite songs to practice. I think of custard pie to be of the same stock as night flight, walter's walk, and southbound saurez etc. It seems that they made more standard rocker songs during and after headley grange.

I am a huge Bonham fan. WITHOUT A DOUBT he is the greatest rock and roll drummer EVER. Your Bonham videos are great, enjoyed them all. I could sit around all day and dissect Bonham drum parts with knowledgeable Bonham fans like yourself. Just one suggestion on the drum beat from Custard Pie. It sounds to me that he is keeping the hi-hat going with his foot in 8th notes while he is playing 8th notes on it with his right hand. Its the tambourine on his hi-hat that you hear not a shaker. You really hear the hi-hat going when he plays the snare drum kicks in the middle of the grove. Just a thought. Keep up the great work.

been jammin' this with a friend...I've been actually transcribing Physical Graffitti out note for note(I am a Bonham freak like you!) and your videos help a lot. Thanks! BTW, if anyone's interested, you can hear us jammin' on it on sound cloud custard-pie-led-zeppelin-w-t-j

It's like in heartbreaker, ghost notes on the snare give illusion it's on the hit-hat. Good video again, really instructive!

I've been a guitar player since '75 ish... Zep has always been my favorite. Now I'm in my 50's and I have a recording studio, play the keys, guitars, bass, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. But no room for any drums. However my keyboard has drum features. I have learned to play so many drums in different styles, but just can't get all the correct sounds. Your instructions and lesson are very helpful. I have to keep on practicing... I know the CUSTARD PIE tempos, changes, breaks all pretty good... but the electronic drum sound is terrible. Maybe one day I'll build a huge recording studio that can accommodate a drum set along with all my other instruments. Then I'll be able to learn to play PROPER drums and percussion. Thanks. Your videos are very helpful

Nice break down.

The reason it sounds like 16ths on the hat is there's a little delay effect on the hat. Same as how the delay effect on the kick on When the Levee Breaks makes it sound like Bonham is playing double kicks when he's not.

Xlnt instruction and history. Your voice fades in and out when you're sitting straight, but we caught most of it. Nice practice area. Dig your sweet Vistalite Bonham tribute kit. Our band will appreciate me finally playing CP, correctly

I'm sure he more than likely has ghost notes all over the place. Everything else is so... Cool video.
