Lyrics:
It's calm yet wild the style that I speak
Just filled with facts and you will never get weak in the heart
In fact you'll start to illuminate, knowledge to others in a song
Let me demonstrate the force of knowledge
Knowledge reigned supreme
The ignorant is ripped to smithereens
What do you mean when you say I'm rebellious
Cause I don't accept everything that you're telling us

He was doing this back in the 80's before it was cool. Everytime I hear it I learn something new. I know you have read the lyrics and heard the music true knowledge, true power know thy self. Johann F. Blumenbach, JA Blofener, and HS Chamberlain should be studied by all...start to illuminate others through a song.

Interesting. I find it odd that KRS would mistake Eli Whitney as Black. I mean, of all the inventions in the world you'd think he'd get the one about the cotton gin correct. That one simple mistake makes him look really bad. It would be like a Jew saying Mohammed invented Jesus. I hope you discovered this mistake in your paper and didn't replicate his mistake.

Thats was done by design by these record labels which also own private prisons. Rappers like him was educating us and telling us to stop the violence against each other. He even pointed out that white kids began to call themselves n1ggas. Now why do you think they drove guys like him out of rap and replaced them with N1ggas With Attitudes. Stay woke brothers and sisters .

Lol but Uncle Luke and Snoop Dogg are prolific old school hip hop artists who talked about a lot of the same things: drugs, sex, booty, money, etc. And there's many many other old school artists who were out there also talking about violence and gangs. Not just in today's music.

Even though black people in this country are from the tribe of Judah from the Holy Bible, we are not egyptian, they had us as hostages in this Holy war, and Moses gave us the 613 Holy commandments which freed us frim captivity the 1st. time. Just like we will be freed and all our mistreatment by this current temporary world will be avenged! All praise The Most High in our Holy Messiahs name, for ever and ever. Amen, HalleLuYah. THIS kind of rap doesn't sell to "mainstream". However, it is the MOST PROFOUND to establishing human EXCEPTIONALISM in our urban communities!😎

But it could sell -- the problem is that the corrupt industry does not want to promote it. They don't know what the people will or won't like if they never give it a chance to be heard.

@@suave_d I'm from an era where it DID sell, quite well (early 80s). However, certain people from outside of the urban Black community put big money behind "gangsta rap". Interestingly, it was about the SAME time that crack cocaine came into our communities and, things like " prison reform" and aggressive privatization of prisons, were instituted. I was there. I saw some of these things; very tragic!😓💔 God help us!

The problem with Rap is that the old school rappers had to fight to get music into mainstream and fight against the same industry that is now using rap music to make billions off it. New generations weren’t exposed to KRS One and we who grew up with him know how talented he was in his prime. When I’m in the mood for a solid beat and great flow I go back to old school rap.

It influenced me to majoring in philosophy, doing a study tour in Kemet (Egypt), doing work in the community, going to a hbcu, etc. Thanks Krs one & BDP

Wtf? I actually remember watching this as a kid on YO MTV Raps here in Europe. This concept of time is so crazy. My nostalgia gets so extreme that it feels like I will travel back in time any second now. This is so fascinating. Sorry if I bore but you I'm thinking about the fact that back then as a kid when I was watching this video on tv I was not aware of being present or contemplating time. Now I look back and I miss that time and contemplate then and now, but am I the same person or being? Can I actually truly be aware and present now? Or can I only still only observe this life passing in time? I try to really be in this moment so that 30 years from now I will say yeah I remember that time and I really lived it being aware that it is passing. Lately I've been obsessed with time. My mind can't really comprehend what I'm trying to comprehend regarding time and space and beingness in this existence. Anyone else here that is going through this? Thanks if you read all of this. Maybe I fixed your insomnia? :)

I first heard of him at age 13 in 1987... My older cousin would leave cassette tapes around the house and I would make copies if I liked them. I was from New Jersey spending the summer down south with my country cousin so I appreciated Hip Hop a little more than him... I loved the entire Criminal Minded cassette I played it nearly every day until I heard of this dude named Rakim and the track titled Eric B is President... After hearing both Rakim and Krs One I knew Hip Hop would never be the same...The god and the teacher.
