I'm very interested in boogie woogie and I've played piano for around 10 years. It does however feel more forced when I try to learn the style. It's fun to see how easy your fingers seem to slide from key to key.

I never played piano, and you can imagine what I feel when I see all that 8) like a rocket science
@croatthetop8 жыл бұрын
+scaryfear21 I never had piano, but Im positive I would be able to do this... I tried other melodies on cheap synths few times - in few days got hands-eye coordination... And I can tell you its all about that feeling of you wanting it hard enough, seeing it in head and hearing it 1-2 times... or 10, lol, depends on a melody and one's memory... thats 90% of work done... I avoid notes, it just slows me down... Some need them, some dont... Try it no matter what ;).

hey brandan, i love your videos but i´d realy like to know which kind of left hand is played in the riff. Felix
@stephenwilliams77997 жыл бұрын
I think it goes like this (for G, with low G paired with each note): D D E D F D E D But for C, play it like this (paired with low C for each note) to avoid having to play A#: G G A G G G A G

What key should I use this riff in?
@stephenwilliams77997 жыл бұрын
Dr. K, you're killing me! My fingertips are all raw from learning all this great material. I just have one question on the baseline (which is awesome); I think it goes like this (for G, with low G paired with each note): D D E D F D E D But when you play the C chord left hand at around 2:19, you play it like this (with low C paired with each note): G G A G B G A G So you play B where I would have expected A#. And it actually works in a discordant way. I don't think I would have ever noticed had cameraperson not shown your left hand at that point. Do you do it that way often, or was it something you didn't do on purpose? The rest of the time (left hand not shown), I hear this for C: G G A G G G A G Which avoids having to hit that A# (which is easier for me!).

Stephen Williams very interesting. Thanks for pointing that out, I think there are things that work in boogie when slowed down wouldn’t sound quite as right. But as with any art you have variations with anything, maybe it is good to play it both ways.

Is this in the key of D? Or is he just sneaking the D into the C scale?
@liamwest64414 жыл бұрын
Nick Wilkinson It’s in the key of G, but you can easily transfer it to to the key of c

I can't play boogie woogie with both hands help please :)
@usmetaltv8 жыл бұрын
+Gyursel Rami I was having the same problem... I kept at it and kept doin the exercises here on brendans channel and one day it just got easier ... if it is possible.. it is for me...) I have a piano sittin in front of me all weekend when im at my gf house.. even if it isn't on... ill just bang on the left hand only for a long while shes watchin a movie or I am... its relaly about re training your hands to work independent my right hand is doin great. i thought with 40 years o bass and guitar( and im no sloucher..) the left hand would be dominant! nope... but its coming along as dr k sez,,, stick with it keep it up...

Gyursel, I hope you've had success playing boogie woogie with both hands. I just started Dr K's videos a month ago myself. I just thought I'd mention another way to get hands independent in case it's of use to you. When I start a new boogie left hand riff, instead of trying to play anything of substance on top of it with the right hand, I just start very simple and work my way up. For example, I'll start by tapping eighth notes with my right hand on a single key while I play the left hand. When I can do that, I switch to to quarter notes. When I can do that, I switch to alternating eighth and quarter notes on the right hand. When I can do that, I start going back and forth with two notes (eighth or quarter notes) with my right hand. And so on. Once I have mastered these simple right hand exercises, I move on to trying simple riffs or a tune with the right hand. Using this technique each time I learn a new left hand riff gets me to hand independence pretty fast.
